Joseph Anton Schneiderfranken or Bô Yin Râ (born November 25, 1876 in Aschaffenburg , † February 14, 1943 in Massagno / Ticino ) was a German writer and painter.

Life

Joseph A. Schneiderfranken, born as Joseph Anton Schneider, grew up in Aschaffenburg and Frankfurt am Main . In his youth he attended various painting academies in Frankfurt, Munich , Paris and Vienna . During this time he was taught free of charge by the painter Hans Thoma . As a young painter, he changed his real name to "Schneider-Franken". In 1903 he married his first wife Irma Schönfeld, who died of diabetes in 1915. Many paintings and writings are known from his various travels within Europe, with those from Greece , where he stayed from 1912 to 1913, particularly stand out. His pictures process both landscape motifs and spiritual content. After the end of the First World War, in which he had to do military service from 1916 (without a weapon as an interpreter for Greek prisoners), he married his second wife Helene Hoffmann in Görlitz and in 1921 founded the " Jakob-Böhme- Bund". In 1919 the daughter Devadatti was born. In 1923 he moved to Switzerland with his family.

JAS has been writing books since 1913 that are about spiritual and individual awakening. Most of his writings were published under the name Bô Yin Râ by Kober Verlag, which held the rights to his work until 2013. Alfred Kober-Staehelin, then publisher and admirer of Bô Yin Râs, described the effect of the books Bô Yin Râs as a “practical force” for attaining certainty and joie de vivre. An advertisement for the publisher in the Weltbühne in 1932 read: “If you want to find out the real causes of today's world confusion, read 'The Specter of Freedom' by Bô Yin Râ. The whole of humanity could heal from this book. ”(Weltbühne 28.2 1932, p. 521). The 32-volume main work Bô Yin Râs, which he himself described as a "spiritual textbook", is entitled "Hortus Conclusus". According to Schneiderfrankens, the non-Masonic empowered brotherhood of ancient rites , called "Ebdar" for short, goes back to his work. However, he was neither a founder nor a member of this brotherhood .

Foundation, endowment

The German Bô Yin Râ Foundation was founded in Darmstadt in 1973 ; its current headquarters are in Marburg . The Swiss foundation Bô Yin Râ with legal domicile in Basel was founded in 1974 under the patronage of Schneiderfrankens widow Helene. The purpose of the foundation is the undistorted preservation and promotion of the entire work as well as the preservation of the Villa Gladiola in Massagno , the residence of the Schneiderfranken family.
