Böckmann is one of the leading horse trailer brands in Europe. Böckmann Fahrzeugwerke GmbH currently has more than 300 employees (as of March 2016) and works with sales partners in over 30 countries worldwide.

In 1963 Anton Böckmann developed a horse trailer with a canvas tarpaulin to improve driving comfort and as a windbreak.

Company history

Anton Böckmann, who passed his master's examination as a blacksmith at the age of only 21 , founded the Böckmann company together with his wife Brigitte in 1956. Initially, the main business was shoeing and repairing agricultural machines.

In 1960 the production of cattle trailers for agriculture was started, from which Anton Böckmann developed the first box trailer. These trailers were marketed under the brand name ABLAS (Anton Böckmann Lastrup) at the time . Horse trailers were later developed from the cattle trailers. The first Böckmann horse trailer was equipped with a canvas tarpaulin and was used to transport the Raudi family pony. By the end of 1964, Anton Böckmann developed a two-axle transporter for two horses from this at the customer's request. The Böckmann company was also a leading manufacturer in the field of pony carriages until the mid-1970s.

In 1970 the company moved to the Lastrup industrial estate, where it expanded its production area to 21,600 m² and introduced series production . Shortly afterwards, the first horse trailer with a polyester hood was presented. Another new development was presented at the first Equitana horse fair in Essen in 1972 : a horse trailer with an aluminum structure that was significantly lighter than its predecessors. From 1975 onwards, Böckmann also produced truck bodies for transporting cattle and full polyester trailers for two horses.

Also driven by the company's own needs, the first horse transporter for up to ten horses was developed in 1985 . In addition, Böckmann designed new horse flight containers for Lufthansa , which were used for the first time for the Olympic Games in Seoul (1988).

Böckmann Fahrzeugwerke GmbH was managed from 1980 to 2013 by two of Anton and Brigitte Böckmann's four sons: Klaus Böckmann (degree in mechanical engineering) and Roger Böckmann (degree in technology). In 1996, Klaus and Roger Böckmann were awarded the entrepreneurship prize of the Oldenburger Münsterland for their entrepreneurial skills and their entrepreneurial achievements at and for the Lastrup location. Today Klaus Böckmann is the sole managing director of Böckmann Fahrzeugwerke GmbH (as of March 2016).

In addition to the vehicle works, Anton Böckmann also built up the Böckmann stallion keeping, which was later taken over by his son Antonius Böckmann. The equestrian master craftsman and successful show jumper Gilbert Böckmann , another son of Anton Böckmann, now runs the Böckmann training and tournament stable in the Hamstrup district of Lastrup .

In 2016, the Böckmann company, which has the slogan “First Class Annex”, celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Today 40 different models are built.

Böckmann horse trailer

The production of Böckmann horse trailers can look back on a long tradition dating back to 1956. The Böckmann horse trailer range includes trailers for one to five horses made of plywood, full polyester or aluminum.

  • Uno horse trailer - The Uno model offers space for a horse or for a mare with her foal and is available with a plywood or aluminum structure.
  • Duo horse trailer - The Böckmann Duo trailers are suitable for transporting two horses. The structure of the horse trailer is made of plywood (wood). The duo trailers are available in adapted designs for large horses , ponies , Icelandic horses , for western riders with large saddle holders for western saddles and for coachmen with an integrated carriage holder in front of the horse trailer.
  • Comfort horse trailers - The Comfort horse trailers are made of full polyester and are therefore particularly robust and durable. These horse trailers for two horses are, like other Böckmann horse trailer models, equipped with a safety system for the pit bars ("MSS - Multi Safe System") as standard.
  • Master horse trailer - the Master full polyester trailer from Böckmann for the transport of two horses is available in many different colors and with decors from Jan Künster . The master horse trailer is equipped with an automobile standard chassis ("WCFplus") as standard.
  • Champion horse trailer - The Champion is an aluminum horse trailer for two horses. Aluminum is very suitable for horse trailers because it does not absorb moisture and the trailer cannot rot.
  • Portax horse trailer - The Portax horse trailer made of aluminum is available in various designs for two to three horses, with an extra large saddle compartment, head-high saddle compartment door, front exit and rear flap / wing door combination.
  • Traveler horse trailers - The traveler horse trailers from Böckmann are suitable for transporting two to five horses, although there are special models for small horses / ponies (Traveler K), western horses (Traveler W) and large horses (Traveler G). On the traveler trailer, the horses stand diagonally with their heads opposite to the direction of travel, which prevents them from bumping their heads in the event of heavy braking.
Fahrzeugwerke Böckmann also offers horse trucks for the transport of up to 12 horses.

Böckmann Horse Trucks

Böckmann has been building horse transporters in Germany since 1956. The manufacturer offers small horse trucks (Compact) for two horses and large horse transporters (Equipe) for the transport of up to twelve horses. Each horse truck is individually manufactured at Böckmann and adapted to customer requirements. The Equipe models can be equipped with individually furnished living rooms. In addition to selling, the Böckmann Truck Center in Lastrup has been renting out trucks for horse transport since 2016.
