Bünsow (family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bünsow family was a family that had existed since the 14th century.

History and members

The sex of Bünsows was part of patrician families , which in Greifswald and Anklam lived. From there they moved to several Pomeranian cities. Most of the family initially lived in Greifswald, where family members died out in the mid-18th century. The Greifswald branch of the family provided 17 councilors from 1312 and three (here the following) mayors of the city :

In the old churches of Greifswald, numerous tombstones of the Bünsows with their inscriptions have been preserved and 21 of them are documented in Deutsche Insschriften Online . The brothers Lorenz / Laurentius Bünsow (1630–1679) and Christian Bünsow (* around 1640; † September 17, 1671), who were both rectors of the Great City School in Wismar , belonged to this branch of the family.

Members of the Bünsows who lived in Holstein , Sweden , Estonia and Mexico , traced back to their ancestors from Anklam and Holstein ( Anklamer branch ). The Holstein Bünsow descended from Jochim Hinrich Bünsow, who settled in Lübeck . He had a son named Jochim Hinrich (* 1630) who served as an officer in the artillery in Lübeck. Later the descendant Johann Ludewig (* 1718 in Hamburg ) moved on to Heide .

Several well-known artists, but also booksellers, publishers and printers emerged from the Holstein branch of the family. These included the painters in chronological order:

With the Kiel-born forest entrepreneur Friedrich Christian Ernestus Bünsow , son of the Kiel painter Joachim Johann Friedrich Bünsow (1789–1873), the family made considerable fortunes in Sweden and he became known as one of the “sawmill patrons”. His son, the Swedish diplomat Robert Bünsow , published an overview of the family history.
