The citizens and local association Rhöndorf is a registered non-profit association based in Rhöndorf , a district of the city of Bad Honnef in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district .

History from the Kulturkampf to 1974

The association emerged from a 1974 merger of the old Catholic civil association Rhöndorf, which was founded in 1868 by the head of the local school, Hubert Schiffelmann, and the local association Rhöndorf eV - association for local political and traffic-promoting efforts - from 1908. This was primarily committed to promoting tourism.

The association developed special activities in the Adenauer era under its long-time chairman Peter Profittlich. With him at the head of the club, the construction of the music pavilion was initiated, which was designed by the famous architect Fritz August Breuhaus de Groot and completed in 1959. The master baker and confectioner Profittlich also received a wide media response through his dispute with Adenauer over the construction of a cable car from Rhöndorf to the Drachenfels , the most climbed mountain in the Siebengebirge. With Profittlich's death, the local association Rhöndorf, of which Adenauer was a member, lost momentum. A merger with the Catholic Civic Association, which was much more active in the late 1960s and early 1970s and mainly active in the ecclesiastical and social sphere, of which Konrad Adenauer was an honorary member and which celebrated its centenary in 1968, offered itself.

activities

Establishment and operation of a teaching vineyard

Since the merger on June 7, 1974, under the leadership of the former chairman of the Catholic citizens' association, Josef Aenstoots, the association has been actively involved in the further development of the townscape, in cultural and educational issues as well as in community issues, true to the motto reproduced on the venerable flag Schiller's " Song of the Bell ": "Work is the citizen's adornment - a blessing is the price of effort."

In order to revive old fallow vineyards , the association leased urban land in 2008, which belonged to the Ulaneneck vineyard site in the Petersberg area , which had been planted until 1970 . At that time, of the 485 hectares of vineyards in the Rhein-Sieg district, only 20 hectares remained after the land consolidation. Today the community and local association maintains a teaching vineyard in the center of the town on Ziepchensplatz, which was expanded in 2011, and develops its own Rhenish cuvée from grapes from typical Middle Rhine grapes, especially Riesling. The inauguration of the teaching vineyard in 2009 was also celebrated in memory of the completion of the music pavilion 50 years ago. With this activity, the association wants to underline the cohesion of the Middle Rhine wine-growing region, which is largely located in Rhineland-Palatinate and with its 20 hectares of Siebengebirgswein in North Rhine-Westphalia . The roses planted in front of the teaching vineyard come from Konrad Adenauer's garden, who was a passionate rose lover.

The beginning of the partnership with Cadenabbia

In 1992 the town twinning between Bad Honnef and the Italian town of Cadenabbia , a fraction of the municipality of Griante on the shores of Lake Como in Lombardy , was sealed . The care of these relationships was entrusted to the citizens and local association Rhöndorf. Cadenabbia was Konrad Adenauer's regular vacation home in the 1950s and 1960s. There he became a passionate boccia player and subsequently had a bocce court , which still exists today, built in his Rhöndorfer garden. The citizens and local association Rhöndorf is a member of a partnership committee founded in November 1997 in Bad Honnef-Cadenabbia.

Rhenish regional studies, tradition and landscape maintenance

The association organizes events, visits, excursions and lectures on Rhenish cultural studies . With this in mind, he organizes an annual festival meeting. Among other things, he is a member of the Rhenish Association for Monument Preservation and Landscape Protection and the Beautification Association for the Siebengebirge and plays a key role in local festivals with partly old Rhenish customs such as May singing and the fair weekend at the patronage festival of the Rhöndorf parish church of St. Mary's Visitation ( July 2nd , old Date). During the darker months of the year, the association organizes "Dotzen" (Martinssingen) before the Martinszug to finance the wake-up men that are given to the children who take part in the Martinszug. This evening ends with the traditional Rhenish meal, Kesselsknall . On the third Sunday of Advent there is a Christmas market on Ziepchensplatz with stalls from self-producers.

Funeral procession and vigil under the Drachenfels - 1000 days of vineyard road closures (2013)

When the city of Bad Honnef closed the vineyards after a rock fall in 2011, the citizens and local association took the initiative. Supported by the Siebengebirge Viticulture Association, he sent a petition to the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament, initiated a vigil and coordinated an action in autumn 2013 in which groups and individual citizens harvested the grapes in the closed vineyards. The “Save the Wine” campaign initiated by him financed the purchase and installation of so-called big bags through donations, which allow employees of the winegrowers to enter the vineyards from an occupational health and safety point of view after a seven-month ban by the administrative district of Cologne .

For the first time, the place took part in the competition Our village has a future with the association as initiator and applicant in September 2014 , convinced the jurors above all with its commitment to viticulture and the commitment to a barrier-free conversion of the local train station and won a gold medal at the Level of the Rhein-Sieg district in the category villages up to 3000 inhabitants.

Museum and meeting center

In 2013, the association rebuilt a house that it has owned since 2012 in the center of the village, which is to serve as a local museum under the name "Rhöndorfer Heimatstube" . Among other things, it houses a collection on the history of the company Penaten, which has been based in Rhöndorf for decades . Since autumn 2012, the house has been used for discussion and lecture evenings as well as committee meetings.

There are also exhibitions, such as a benefit art auction for the benefit of the "Save the Wine!"

The official inauguration as a museum took place with the participation of District Administrator Sebastian Schuster on July 5, 2014. On February 22, 2015 the opening of the exhibition "Expo Vinum" took place, which showed with exhibits from five centuries until April 19, 2015 what the Wine growing means people in and around Rhöndorf.
