geography

The district of Büttelbronn is located in the north of the core town of Öhringen in narrow floodplains that merge into wavy plateaus to the east. Büttelbronn is located on the lower reaches of the Westernbach , Unter- and Ober Maßholderbach in the valley of the Maßholderbach . After Öhringen both rivers flow into the lower Ohrn shortly after one another .

history

Büttelbronn was first mentioned in a document in 1348, but like the associated residential area in Ober Maßholderbach, it goes back to the expansion period of the 9th to 11th centuries. The place was owned by the von Ohrn family from Oberohrn until the middle of the 14th century . After the family died out, the place fell to the Hohenlohe , after the main division of Hohenlohe in 1553, the place belonged to Hohenlohe-Neuenstein and the office of Zweiflingen .

Mazzalterbach (Ober- or Untermaßholderbach) is already mentioned in the Öhringer foundation letter 1037. Mazzalter is the Middle High German name for field maple , the name Büttelbronn can probably be traced back to a personal name. Up until the early 18th century, Ober Maßholderbach was the largest of the three places, before Büttelbronn became the largest of the three due to heavy building activity up to the early 19th century. In 1806, Büttelbronn and Untermaßholderbach became independent municipalities, and from 1809 they belonged to the Unterohrn staff school until around 1817 Büttelbronn was raised to the status of a mayor, which then also included Unter- and Ober Maßholderbach. The common administrative seat was in Untermaßholderbach. In 1834 there were 422 inhabitants. The population grew to 574 by 1885, but then fell to 390 by the beginning of the Second World War. In the immediate post-war period, numerous expellees came to the town, so that in 1950 a new high of 578 inhabitants was counted. However, many of the displaced people emigrated again after a few years, after which only 446 inhabitants were counted in 1961. This population remained relatively stable until the 1980s.

The inhabitants of Büttelbronn and Maßholderbach lived mainly from agriculture and forestry until well into the 20th century. It was only after the Second World War that other branches of business were also represented, primarily the manufacturing industry.

In terms of church, Unter- and Ober Maßholderbach were originally branches of the collegiate church in Öhringen , to which Büttelbronn, which was once a subsidiary of the parish church in Bitzfeld , also came around 1500. Together with the collegiate church, the places were reformed in the 16th century and were then almost purely Protestant until the Second World War.
