Březník (German Pürstling ) is a wasteland in the Bohemian Forest in the municipality of Modrava (Mader) in the Okres Klatovy .
geography
The place is located six kilometers south of Modrava in the Luzenské údolí ( Lusental ), which runs north of Mount Lusen in the direction of Modrava. The southern end of the valley is near the German-Czech border. The Luzenský potok ( Lusenbach ) runs through the wide valley and joins the Březnický potok ( Schwarzbach ) at Březník at an altitude of 1133 m to form the Modravský potok (Maderbach) . Over the narrowing and now wooded valley, this drains the area and is one of the source streams of the Vydra .
climate
The Lusental is the coldest and rainiest place in the Bohemian Forest. The average temperature is only 3.7 ° C and an average of 1500 mm of precipitation falls . There is snow on up to 140 days a year and night frosts can be expected every month .
history
After the completion of the Chinitz-Tettau alluvial canal in 1800, it was possible to use the forests in the higher-lying areas of the Stubenbach dominion around Mader for wood production. For this purpose, the Josefstadt wood-cutter settlement was built around 1800 and the Pürstling forester's house on the Goldener Steig in 1804 . In the course of time a few other buildings were added.
In 1838 the settlement Bürstling or Pirstling consisted of a forest keeper's house and a hunter's house. The parish was Aussergefild . Bürstling remained subservient to Stubenbach until the middle of the 19th century .
The forester's house was in operation until 1951 and then had to be abandoned because of the construction of border fortifications between the ČSSR and the Federal Republic of Germany during the Cold War and the associated establishment of a restricted zone . Until 1969 units of the border guards were stationed in the building, which fell into disrepair after their departure. After the border was opened in 1989/1990, the area became accessible again. From 1998 to 2002 the forester's house was rebuilt and now serves as the information center of the Šumava National Park . There is also a small restaurant and an exhibition about the writer Karel Klostermann in the building.
The border crossing at the Blue Pillars (Modrý sloup) to Germany was closed after the Second World War. After the political change in the Czech Republic, he stayed that way for nature conservation reasons; From 2009 to 2013 there was a temporary border crossing possibility about 2 km northwest on the Kleiner Spitzberg.
Trivia
Parts of the plot of Karel Klostermann's novel "Ze světa lesních samot" (Eng. From the world of forest loneliness) from 1891 take place on site.
