The steam locomotives of the kkStB 99 series were tank locomotives of the kk Austrian State Railways for use on local railways .

history

91.107 with a special train to Türnitz
91,107 in Neuberg an der Mürz (1991)

In 1897 the delivery of the kkStB series 99 , which met the required conditions (300  hp ), began. With good coal , it even achieved 400 hp. 69 units had been built by 1908, and between 1903 and 1907 another 5 units were added to the NÖLB as number 2, which were used on the Korneuburg – Hohenau local railway . The kkStB machines could be found in the regions of Karlsbad , Laibach and Knittelfeld . Five 99s were also in use on the Vienna suburban line in front of light trains. The use of the Karlovy Vary locomotives on the steep section of the Schlackenwerth – Joachimsthal local railway with slopes of up to 50 per thousand is remarkable .

Between 1908 and 1913, 20 class 199 locomotives were built, a further development that could carry a larger water supply and more coal. These machines drove on the Bolzano – Meran , KremsMauthausen routes on the Wechselbahn and on the Vienna Stadtbahn . The same type was also built in nine copies for the NÖLB as series 102 and used on the Freiland - Türnitz route (see  Leobersdorfer Bahn ).

After the First World War , Italy received eight (FS 876 and 877 ), Yugoslavia  13 (JDŽ 153 ) and Czechoslovakia 34 of the series. 34 locomotives remained with the BBÖ and kept their kkStB numbers. In the course of nationalization, the NÖLB locomotives came to the BBÖ in 1923 , where they were given the numbers 99.70–74 (formerly series 2) and  199.21–29 (formerly series 102).

In the interwar period, these locomotives were mainly used on the branch lines near Wels , Bad Radkersburg and Pöchlarn , but also on many other local railways. When the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over the locomotives in 1938, the 99 series locomotives were given the numbers 98.1301–1324, and the 199 series were assigned the numbers 98.1352–1374. In 1941 the JDŽ 153-002, 004, 008, 009 were with the MÁV for a few months and were at least on paper the designation 376,1002, 1004, 1008 and 1009.

In 1953, 15 units of the 99 series were taken over by the ÖBB as the 91 series and 9 units of the 199 series as the 91.1 series . The last two digits of the serial numbers remained the same as for the BBÖ. 1960 began a concentration of types, so that most of the locomotives could be found in Wiener Neustadt and Mürzzuschlag . By 1968, all but three of the locomotives were decommissioned.

The last application area for these three locomotives was the Mürzzuschlag – Neuberg local line . In 1972 they were retired. The museum locomotive 91.107, which has remained operational in Austria, is at home in the Schwechat Railway Museum and is owned by the Association of Railway Friends .
