Basketball, which is called SG Saarlouis / Dillingen Basketball. The greatest successes of the club were the participation in the game round of the 2nd basketball league in 1983/84 and 1990/91 . They are currently back in the 2nd Bundesliga. The 1st women's team "Saarlouis / Dillingen Diamonds" plays in the 2nd DBBL Süd.

history

Beginnings and 1960s

After French sports teachers introduced the Dillingen students to basketball from around 1955, some players joined forces in 1959, initially in a department of the VFB Dillingen . After the influx of more players, the BBF Dillingen was founded in 1960 under the chairmanship of Paul Braun. A women's team was reported for the first time as early as 1964. As early as the 1968/69 season, the first men's team made it to the Regionalliga Südwest and the number of members climbed over 100 for the first time.

1970s

On April 26, 1970, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the BBF, the final of the German championship between the eventual winner TUS 04 Leverkusen and MTV Gießen was held in Dillingen. The over 2,000 spectators witnessed the first of 14 championships held by the record winner Leverkusen.

In 1972 the first men's team was relegated from the Regionalliga Südwest after four years of membership (at that time the second highest division), but was able to cause a stir the following year when they were only defeated in the DBB Cup in the semi-finals by the five-time German champions MTV Gießen .

After a generation change followed in the 1977/78 season, relegation to the Saar-Mosel regional league. This was followed by a realignment and the 24-year-old Hermann Paar was hired as a coach , who led the team to direct promotion. He was coach of the first men's team until the end of the 1990/91 season (until 1989 as a player-coach).

1980s

In 1980, a game against the record champions TuS 04 Leverkusen was organized for the club's 20th anniversary .

After three years in the league you could realize the promotion to the regional league middle for the 1981/82 season. The head of the team at that time was the young Markus Jochum , who later played 62 games for the German national basketball team and was active in the 1st and 2nd league. Only 2 years later, at the end of the 1982/83 season, the promotion to the 2nd basketball league could be celebrated with the championship in the Middle Regional League.

In the 1983/84 season , a Saarland team competed in the men's 2nd Bundesliga. The team was only able to win two games in the main round of the southern season and went into the relegation round as bottom of the table with 4:32 points. After another victory, the season ended in 10th place and was relegated back to the Regionalliga Südwest. Markus Jochum then left the team and you had to start the league the following year. There, after two years of membership, they managed to return to the Middle Regional League at the end of the 1986/87 season. After 1983 a 6-country tournament for youth national teams took place in Dillingen in 1988, which attracted over 3000 spectators.

After a successful 1989/90 season, they once again made it to the 2nd basketball division .

Consolidation in the 90s

After you could win only two of 22 games in the main round of the 1990/91 season , two more wins were achieved in the relegation round. However, this was not enough to keep the league. After Hermann Paar left the club in the direction of Saarlouis, it was decided, for personnel and economic reasons, to start over in the upper league and not exercise the right to play in the regional league. The Albanian Maksim Peja was signed as the new coach and you could reach some placements in the upper midfield of the Oberliga, as well as the last Saarland Cup victory in 1992/93, before relegating to the Saarland League after the 1996/97 season.

At the end of the 1999/2000 season, at the end of the decade, the championship in the Saar regional league secured promotion to the top division.

Focus on youth work in the noughties

After 3 years in the senior league and 3 years in the regional league, the BBF Dillingen had to accept relegation to the association league after the 2005/06 season, but was able to secure direct promotion. At this point in time, Dominic Dörr was once again a young trainer responsible for the men's and youth teams. Through his continuous work and his commitment as a selection trainer, a large number of qualified youth players could be trained and won and one could again advance to the top of the Saarland in the youth field.

Jugend forscht and merger to form SG Saarlouis / Dillingen Basketball

Due to the collapse of TV Saarlouis, a large number of young, talented players could be won in 2010, who were able to win the championship in the Saar regional league together with the existing team of players in the second year. The team, which started in the major league in the 2012/13 season, was very talented (2 later Pro B players (Edgar Schwarz and Alexander Diederich), 1 later Pro A player (Christoph Rupp), 1 later BBL Player (Eric Leonhardt)), but also extremely young with only 2 players over 20 and 4 players under 18. Despite an excellent 10th place, one had to cope with the relegation, because this year 4 teams were relegated from the league due to retreats of higher-class teams.

In the 2013/14 season, a youth performance team was installed in Luxembourg for the first time in cooperation with the DJK Saarlouis / Roden.

After the 2013/14 season and a midfield position in the regional league, Dominic Dörr left the BBF Dillingen to take the next step in his coaching career at the renowned basketball boarding school at the Urspring School .

Thereupon, in the summer of 2014, they joined forces with the DJK Saarlouis / Roden Abtl. Basketball for SG Saarlouis / Dillingen Basketball together. The SG immediately became the largest basketball club in Saarland and since the 2016/17 season, with the regional league men ("SUNKINGS") and a second men's team in the major league, has provided 2 supraregional and the highest-playing Saarland men's team. The women ("DIAMONDS") also rose to the Regionalliga Südwest by winning the championship in the Oberliga 2017/18. In the women's area, too, the 2nd team plays in the major league and thus nationally.

Women's basketball in Dillingen

In 2014/15 the new generation of women's basketball began under the direction of trainer Rouven Behnke. In the 2018/19 season, the first women ("Diamonds") were promoted from the regional league to the second women's basketball division (2. DBBL). To this day, Behnke is in charge of the women's area. The league could also be held for the coming season.
