The Grünbergallee station is a station of the S-Bahn Berlin in Berlin-Altglienicke . It opened in 1962. It was previously a train station on the Güteraußenring .

The "Grünbergallee" train station on the Güteraußenring

In 1940, the outer freight ring was built on the site of today's S-Bahn station.

The start of suburban passenger traffic from Grünau to Lichtenrade was announced for July 3, 1948, but did not take place until July 26, 1948. The opening of a “Schulzensiedlung” stop was announced for August 3rd. In the course book valid from October 3, 1948, it is included under this name, but the supplement to the course book indicates that it is not in operation for the time being. In the course book from May 15, 1949, the stopping point is then received, it was given the name "Grünbergallee", sometimes also with the spelling "Grünberg Allee".

After the commissioning of the parallel Berlin outer ring in 1951, passenger traffic on this part of the outer freight ring was stopped before March 1, 1952. A replacement station "Altglienicke" was to be built on the new line, but this did not happen, as this would also have restricted the performance of the new line. So the old line and with it the Grünbergallee station was reactivated and from October 3, 1954 to May 31, 1958, passenger traffic was used.

On April 24, 1959, the Grünbergallee (Aga) junction was put into operation at the now closed station. A newly built, approximately 1.5 km long connecting track for freight traffic to Schönefeld Airport branched off here, which was used until 1963 and was then replaced by the Berlin-Grünau-Berlin Airport Schönefeld Süd railway line, which opened on September 3, 1963 .

Grünbergallee S-Bahn station

When the S-Bahn, which opened in 1962, was planned, a Falkenhöhe station was initially planned to replace the two stations "Grünbergallee" and "Schönefeld Siedlung", which were closed in 1958. In the end it was built on Grünbergallee and was given this name again, but “Schönefeld Siedlung” was abandoned.

The station was built at ground level in 1962, a footbridge connected the platform with the surrounding houses. At the time, there was no roofing, it was only erected after the fall of the Wall. Since then there has also been a ramp, which means that the station is barrier-free.

Connection

Since December 14, 2014, the bus 160 of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe no longer stops at the train station, but two other bus routes stop just a few minutes away: the 163 and the 734. There is no other option to change.
