The sports community Rotation Prenzlauer Berg is a sports club from the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg . It consists (as of 2015) of the eight categories basketball , football , gymnastics , handball , hockey , dancing , table tennis and volleyball .

Club history

In 1949 the company sports club graphics / rotation was founded, from which the BSG Rotation Prenzlauer Berg emerged in 1950. The sponsoring company was the printing company "Neues Deutschland". For this reason, the name Rotation, which stands for printing technology on large paper rolls, was born. The pressure roller in the logo also indicates that the association was originally intended for employees in the printing industry. The footballers were organized in the BSG from the start. In 2011, with around 400 active members, they represent the department with the largest number of members. Since 2015 this has been the hockey department, which joined the club in 1979. 60% of the members of this department are children and adolescents ( according to CRC ). The volleyball department was founded in 1972.

In 1991 the registered association "Sportgemeinschaft Rotation Prenzlauer Berg eV" was founded, but the statutes were adopted on June 27, 1990. There are currently around 1400 members (as of 2014) active in the SG rotation. The club has also had a basketball department since 2016.

hockey

In 1979 the hockey department of the BSG Rotation Prenzlauer Berg , founded in 1954 as SG Dynamo Berlin-Mitte (and from 1965 to 1979 belonging to SG Dynamo Hohenschönhausen Berlin), joined. Today the department has 657 young, adult, active and passive members (as of January 1, 2020). The SG Rotation Easter 2017 was awarded the title Club Of The Year 2016 by the European Hockey Federation for its development .

In the 1975/76 season, the men's team, at that time still called SG Dynamo-Hohenschönhausen Berlin, reached 1st place in the Oberliga (field), which was the second highest division of the German Hockey Sports Association of the GDR and thus rose to the Association League , the highest GDR league. Until 1990, the SG Rotation Prenzlauer Berg participated with interruptions (1980 to 1983 and 1985 to 1989) in the association league game operation.

After the last DHSV association league season in 1989/90, the two German league systems were merged: Rotation as tenth in the table of the association league was assigned to the upper league of the Berlin Hockey Association , the fourth-highest league in Germany. In 1993 the Prenzlauer Berger were relegated to the Berlin Association League.

After 22 years, the team returned to the field league in 2015. At the same time, after the withdrawal of the HC Königs Wusterhausen team in the 2015/16 season , the 1st men were also able to start the league indoors and marched through to the regional league under coach Daniel Geisler in the first league season . In the 2018/19 indoor season, the team now coached by Felix Rugor won first place in the East German regional league and was promoted to the second division, where they finished second in their first division. In the summer of 2017, the first men were promoted to the regional league on the field and are currently playing there in the 2019/20/21 season

In total, rotation is three in the field, four men's teams and one senior team each in the hall.

volleyball

From 1972 to the early 1980s, the women's team reached the top division of the GDR after several promotions. The men's team mainly recruited their players from active players who were no longer in demand with the successful Berlin clubs TSC and SC Dynamo. From 1981 to 1985 there was one FDGB trophy for club teams and one for company sports groups. During this time, rotation managed to win the BSG trophy twice for men and once for women. In this and the following seasons, the Prenzlauers were a training club for young volleyball players and saw themselves in a position to delegate many of them trained players to the top club TSC. In the last season of the GDR league, the men of the BSG rotation qualified for the second division. For financial reasons, however, they only appeared in the national league. In 1994 the volleyball players were promoted to the Regionalliga Nordost and were a top team in the league for the next five years. After several changes in the team and two relegation and promotion, the first men's team will play again in the Regionalliga Nordost in the 2012/13 season.

After the reunification, the women started in the second Bundesliga under the name SG Rupenhorn Berlin and rose to the first Bundesliga as undefeated champions in the same season . After the immediate relegation, the team was able to secure the runner-up in the second division in the following season. Here, too, financial reasons prompted those responsible to have the women's team, which started as a rotation in Prenzlauer Berg, downgraded to the state league. In 2000, the SG won promotion to the Regionalliga Nordost and nine years later as champions they were promoted to the second division. In the first season in the new class, the Berlin women took fifth place. In the following season the team from the east of Berlin was runner-up. Also in the 2011/12 season, the team finished second on the penultimate match day, but was pushed to third place by VfL Oythe after a 2: 3 home defeat against 1. VC Stralsund. In 2012/13 the team withdrew to the newly established Third League North . Then the team switched completely to local rivals Köpenicker SC .

Even today, the department head attaches great importance to training its own offspring. So every year from 2008 to 2011 a team of the Association of German Youth Champions became. This was usually achieved by the U16s, with the exception of the 2008/09 season, in which the U14s won the championship title. In 2012 the club did not win a German championship, but reached the finals in the U20s and took third place in the U18s. Another example of the excellent training in Prenzlauer are the youth national players Nele Barber and Hannah Klemm , who competed in the first division for the VC Olympia Berlin in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons .
