The BT Arena (until 2017 Sala Polivalentă Cluj-Napoca ; German  multi-purpose hall Cluj-Napoca ) is a multifunctional hall in the second largest Romanian city ​​of Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg), Transylvania . It offers a maximum of 10,000 places.

history

The hall, which was inaugurated in October 2014, cost 16.5 million euros and is located in the immediate vicinity of the Cluj Arena football stadium , where the Universitatea Cluj football club plays. The venue is the home of the men's basketball team and the women's handball team of the CS Universitatea Cluj-Napoca . The arena is suitable for various sports such as B. basketball, handball, volleyball , tennis , boxing , gymnastics , mixed martial arts and other contact sports. The hall has a total area of ​​38,410 m² and offers an underground car park with 443 spaces. The hall is also equipped with a rainwater harvesting system for the sanitary facilities. Solar collectors are used for hot water preparation . In addition, it has a photovoltaic system to secure the power supply when needed. A video cube is hung under the hall ceiling .

The women's handball tournament Carpathian Cup made a stop in the arena in 2015 and 2017. In the 2016 Fed Cup , the first round match in the world group between Romania and the Czech Republic took place in the arena . The Romanians lost 2: 3. In the play-offs they played again in the Sala Polivalentă, this time against Germany , and lost 4-1. Two years later in the Fed Cup 2018 , the hall was used for the match between World Group II against Canada (3: 1) and in the play-offs against Switzerland (3: 1).

In April the 2017 European Gymnastics Championships were held in the hall. In August of that year, the Group C games of the European Basketball Championship took place in the Sala Polivalentă. The arena was renovated and expanded for the event. Before the renovation, the hall offered 7,227 seats for basketball, handball or volleyball games. With the expansion, 9,300 seats are now available for these sports.

In October 2017, the Cluj-Napoca-based Banca Transilvania became the name sponsor of the sports hall. The contract is valid for five years and the bank pays 600,000 euros. The new name is BT Arena :

On March 25, 2018, Romania and Russia (26:25) met in the qualification for the 2018 European Women's Handball Championship . Romania later qualified as group winners for the EM.

In addition to sports, concerts are also held in the multi-purpose hall.
