Baaralb

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baaralb is the western part of the natural spatial main unit 092 (according to Friedrich Huttenlocher 1959 and LUBW ) or this unit itself (according to the division by Alfred G. Benzing 1964) of the main unit group Swabian Alb in the south-west German stepland .

It is a hilly country 700 to 850 meters above sea level, which extends in its spatial extent around 40 kilometers from Blumberg in the southwest to Dürbheim in the northeast. Adjacent natural areas are the Hohe Schwabenalb (093) with the Großer Heuberg (093.2) in the north-east, the western Alb foreland (100) in the north, the Baarhochmulde (121) in the west, the Middle Wutachland (120) in the south-west and the Randen in the south-west and in the south and southeast the Hegaualb . In the east, the main unit 092 continues to the northeast in the Upper Danube Valley (092.3) with the Danube breakthrough at Beuron between Tuttlingen and Inzigkofen .

The Baaralb slopes down to the west and north. In the south, the landscape is bounded by the Aitrach valley - a section of the Urdonau valley  - towards the Hegaualb, with the Blumberger Buchberg as a cornerstone of the Baaralb. The geological subsoil is formed by mass limestone of the White Jurassic. The ecological value of the Baaralb is clear from the fact that 51.66 percent of the area is effectively designated as protected areas. With overlaps, the area consists of 20.62% FFH areas , 35.02% bird protection areas and 2.07% nature protection areas .

Natural structure

The Baaralb is structured as follows:

  • 092.1 (Huttenlocher) or 092 (Benzing) Baaralb
    • 092.00 Geisingen-Speichinger Waldberge (Benzing) = 092.10 Baar-Alb north of the Danube (Huttenlocher)
    • 092.01 Length and Aitrach Valley (all on Konstanz sheet)
    • 092.02 (Benzing) = 092.11 (Huttenlocher) Prim-Faulenbachtal
    • 092.10 (Benzing) Blumberg-Fürstenberger Bergland (all on Konstanz sheet)

Benzing wanted to add the Danube valley from Tuttlingen with the eastern part of the Hegaualb to the new main unit 091 2 Western area alb with Danube breakthrough, the Alb part of which he had split off from the Hegaualb, which, according to his interpretation , should occupy the main unit 091 2 to a smaller extent .
