Babócsa ( Croatian Bobovec ) is a municipality in the small area of Barcs , which is located in Somogy County in southwest Hungary . The place is located in the Drau Valley on the Rinya River , five kilometers from the Croatian border and has around 1,600 inhabitants.
The chronicles name a castle in Babócsa in 1450. This was occupied by the Turks in 1555 without fighting. This made the castle one of the few castles in Hungary that was conquered by betrayal.
In the eastern part of the settlement is the Basa Garden (Basakert), which was probably created by the Ottomans. The flowers of the star daffodils unfold here in April and May . The area is under nature protection.
From the train station, a marked hiking trail leads past the Mérus forest and Elizabeth Island , a habitat for rare birds that can be observed from a lookout . There are information boards that describe the flora and fauna of the alluvial forests.
history
The first finds in this area date from the Copper and Bronze Ages . The settlement seems to have been inhabited during the Gothic period as well as during the Ottoman occupation. The reconstructed ruins of the St. Aegidius Chapel are in the Bakert nature reserve . The remains of a Turkish bath were also uncovered here.
A Turkish fountain can be found in the park of Somssich Castle, which was built in the classical style in 1820 . The local history association has set up a local history museum in the small Prinke castle .
The former thermal bath is no longer in operation. The Légrádi Pension (Kossuth utca) is an inn with overnight accommodation, and there is also a hunting lodge (Szabadság tér). A cycle path for the international cycle tour of the three rivers also leads through the village . The majority of the people here are farm workers.
