Babette Simon

Babette Simon (born October 20, 1960 in Düsseldorf ) is a German doctor and university lecturer .

Life

After her high school at the high school Klosterwald in Baden-Wuerttemberg studied Babette Simon from 1980 to 1986 Human Medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg / Basel Cantonal Hospital . In 1986 she completed her doctorate at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg.

After research stays at the Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA (1987 to 1990), she took over the establishment and management of the molecular biology research laboratory gastrointestinal oncology / endocrinology at the Clinic of the Philipps University in Marburg in 1990 . The main focus of research was molecular gastrointestinal oncology, in particular the identification of tumor-associated antigens and their importance for future tumor therapy. She completed her habilitation in 1998 at the University of Marburg and has been an adjunct professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Marburg since 2003. Simon is a specialist in internal medicine with a focus on gastroenterology . She also has the specialist knowledge of emergency services , radiation protection , the qualification of nutritional medicine and the European Diploma Gastroenterology. In 2005 she qualified for a Master of Science degree in Health Care Management at the University of Heidelberg / Mannheim with a thesis on the subject of "The Law on the Modernization of Statutory Health Insurance ( GKV Modernization Act ): Effects on the Financing of German University Hospitals". In 2006 she was elected Vice President of the Philipps University of Marburg and confirmed in office in 2009.

In February 2009 she was appointed by the Federal President to the Scientific Commission of the Science Council, where she worked in an advisory capacity until 2012 and in the Committee for Medicine until 2014. At the beginning of 2010 he was appointed to the Health Research Council of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research ( BMBF ). In November 2009 Babette Simon was elected President of the University of Oldenburg. The then 49-year-old doctor took up her post on February 1, 2010. From 2012 to 2014, Babette Simon was the spokesperson for the Association of North German Universities . In 2011 she was appointed to the Senate of the Helmholtz Association for the research area health, in which she worked for two terms until 2016.

On January 9, 2014, the supervisory board of the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz appointed her to the Medical Board and appointed full-time CEO of the University Medical Center. In October 2017, Babette Simon took over the role of Regional Vice President and Managing Director of Medtronic GmbH at the medical technology company Medtronic and returned to science at the Paris Descartes / Faculté de Santé Université de Paris Faculty of Medicine in 2018 . Babette Simon is a member of the University Council of the Technical University of Dresden and the University of Fulda . She chairs the Scientific Advisory Board of the Ludwig Boltzmann Society in Austria, is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Private Excellence Initiative Johanna Quandt and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Helmholtz Zentrum Geomar .
