Bacillus pseudomycoides is a bacterium of the Bacillus cereus group. It is phenotypically similar but genetically different from Bacillus mycoides and can also bedifferentiatedthrough fatty acid patterns on the cell wall. The cells are immobile, form ellipsoidal spores, and are gram-positive . They often show the typical rhizoid growth on culture media. Furthermore, they are catalase positive and oxidase negative. The optimal growth temperature is 28 ° C, with growth occurring between 15 and 40 ° C. By means of real-time PCR , B. pseudomycoides can be distinguishedfrom other members of the B. cereus group diagnosticallyvia the motB gene.

The class II lantibiotic pseudomycoicidin , which is effective against other gram-positive bacteria , is produced by B. pseudomycoides . The B. pseudomycoides strain BS6 could be isolated from soil contaminated with cooking oil . He shows himself to be a strong producer of a biosurfactant .
