The Backenberg is 341 m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Weser-Leine-Bergland near Güntersen in the southern Lower Saxony district of Göttingen .

The Backenberg rises in the Münden Nature Park . Its summit is 2.2 km south-southeast of Eberhausen and 1 km west of Güntersen , two districts of Adelebsen , and 1.5 km north of Imbsen and 2 km northeast of Löwenhagen , two districts of Niemetal .
The Lamfertbach flows north past the wooded mountain as a tributary of the Auschnippe to the east and past the Nieme, which is fed by the creek from the Kohlenberg to the west, as a tributary of the Weser .

The Backenberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Weser-Leine-Bergland (No. 37), in the main unit Sollingvorland (371) and in the subunit southern Solling-Vorland (371.1) to the natural area Schedener Rötsenke (371.11).
History and mining
Mining used to be carried out on the Backenberg ; A lake has formed in an abandoned open- cast mine . In Backenberg there are nepheline and chrysotile deposits.
