Bade , older spelling godfather ( Chinese  八德 區 , Pinyin Bādé Qū ), is a district (區, ) with about 175,000 inhabitants in the government-direct city of Taoyuan in northwestern Taiwan .

location

Bade is located immediately south of the neighboring Taoyuan district and about 25 km southwest of Taipei . The district is located on the edge of the Taoyuan Plateau , about 100 to 140 meters above sea level , which slopes down to the southeast to the Dahan Valley .

Bade has a junction with Highway 2 leading to Taiwan Taoyuan Airport, which is about 15 km north-west, and Pa Kuei ( Bakuai ) military airfield is located on the eastern edge of the district . The Taiwan High Speed Rail and the main line of the conventional railroad run northwest of Bade, stations are in the neighboring districts of Zhongli and Taoyuan. A connection to Bades' metro network in Taipei is planned.

history

The original name 八 塊 厝 ( Bākuài Cuò , Taiwanese pronunciation Bede Chu ) of the community, which emerged in the middle of the 18th century, meant "eight houses". In 1920 the place name was shortened to 八 塊 ( Bākuài / Bede ) and in 1936 it was changed to 八德 , Bade , which is pronounced similarly in Taiwanese. In the second half of the 20th century, Taoyuan County, to which Bade has been a member since April 1946, developed into one of the most important industrial regions in Taiwan. This resulted in a strong increase in the number of inhabitants, whereupon the municipality of Bade received the status of a large city (市, Shì ) on January 1, 1995 . After the transformation of Taoyuan County into a city under the government, Bade was given the status of a district.
