Taoyuan District

The Taoyuan District ( Chinese  桃園 區 , Pinyin Táoyuán Qū ) is a district of the eponymous governmental city of Taoyuan in the northern part of the Republic of China (Taiwan) . Until December 25, 2014, Taoyuan was the capital of Taoyuan County . After the incorporation of the district into the city and its upgrading to a city directly under the government, the previous city of Taoyuan was converted into a municipality.

economy

The metropolitan area in the northwest of the island of Taiwan is highly industrialized and densely populated. Taoyuan is one of the world's most important centers of the computer industry; numerous brand manufacturers and contract manufacturers have factories in Taoyuan.

The airline Uni Air and the design office and car manufacturer Studio X-Gene are based in the district.

traffic

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Taiwan's most important air hub, is located about 10 km northwest of the neighboring Dayuan district . Highway 1 ( Sun Yat-Sen Freeway ) from Taipei to Kaohsiung touches Taoyuan, while Highway 2 leads to the airport.

Taoyuan has a Taiwan Railroad (TRA) station. The underground Taoyuan station of the Taiwan High Speed Rail (HSR) is in the southwestern neighboring district of Zhongli . The Taoyuan Mass Rapid Transit light rail has been under construction since 1996. It will connect the city with the HSR station, airport terminals 1, 2 and 3 (planned) and beyond that with Taipei.
