Railway stations in Bavaria |
The Augsburg-Hochzoll train station is named after the Hochzoll district of the same name , east of Augsburg city center, and after the main train station, together with the Oberhausen train station, is the second most important train station in Augsburg. Directly in front of the wedge station, the tracks coming from the main station separate into the Munich – Augsburg line and the Paartalbahn .
construction
The Hochzoller train station takes a special form: Since the tracks separate at a switch in the direction of Munich or Ingolstadt , it has platforms on two train routes and is therefore a bit "pulled apart": Tracks 5 and 6 are located on the Paartalbahn Each has its own platform, while tracks 3 and 4 are on the Munich – Augsburg railway line and share a common platform here. Tracks 1 and 2, which are also on the Munich – Augsburg railway line, are intended as through tracks for long-distance and freight traffic.
The station building is located between tracks 1 and 5, which used to be a ticket office that was open on weekdays and other machines. The building is now being used for other purposes and the machines are on the platforms.
The bus stop of the same name for city bus services on line 29 is located on Hochzoller Strasse, which passes under the two tracks to the east of the station building.
Transport offer
The station has a connection to all regional and regional express trains that leave Augsburg central station in an easterly direction and then lead via Aichach to Ingolstadt or via Mering to Munich. The only special feature is the above-mentioned splitting of the railway lines, which is noticeable in the somewhat larger distance between the platforms. Augsburg-Hochzoll is not served in long-distance traffic.
Augsburg-Hochzoll is in the tariff area of the Augsburger Verkehrsverbund (AVV). Within the AVV, the regional train routes have their own line names. At Hochzoll station, the regional trains run on the route from Munich to Mammendorf as R1 , on the route to Ingolstadt to Radersdorf as R2 and as R11 in the direction of Weilheim to Schmiechen .

Between tracks 1 and 5 there is a bus stop for the urban bus line 29, which only runs here on weekdays (every 10 minutes during rush hour). The stop is also used for rail replacement services. The Hochzoll Mitte bus and tram stop, located approx. 250 meters north of the train station on Friedberger Straße, can be reached via Hochzoller Straße, where tram line 6 stops in addition to city bus line 29.
Conversions
The station was fundamentally rebuilt as it is located on the Munich – Augsburg line, which is being expanded as a high-speed line from Augsburg to Munich as part of the Magistrale for Europe .
The level platforms of the Paartalbahn were formerly at the level of the station building and were replaced in 2002 by two elevated platforms on the bridge over Hochzoller Straße.
The track structure and the two platforms in the direction of Mering-Munich / Weilheim were replaced from 2000 to 2007 by two through tracks for long-distance traffic and two more tracks with an island platform for regional traffic. The new island platform for tracks 3 and 4 has been in operation since September 16, 2007.
From November 2007 to April 2008, a Bike & Ride facility with 256 covered bicycle parking spaces was built in the area of the previous location of the kiosk in order to improve the inadequate conditions for parking bicycles. The provisional bicycle racks, which were located under the two bridges on Hochzoller Strasse as traffic was restricted, were dismantled.
The station owes its importance to the S-Bahn-like regional rail cycle in Augsburg. As a commuter station to the city center, it will become increasingly important as a transfer station, primarily due to its numerous connections to regional bus traffic: The Bavarian Regiobahn uses the station every 15 minutes with its trains to and from Friedberg (b Augsburg) / Aichach / Ingolstadt all day long. In and out of the Mering direction, the Bayerische Regiobahn stops in rush hour alternating with the DB Regio every 15 minutes, so that there is a 7.5-minute cycle to and from the city center.
A spacious Park & Ride area with 220 parking spaces has been built to the north of the tracks facing Schwangauer Strasse, which can be used free of charge.
