The Bavarian Regiobahn GmbH (BRB) is a railway company based in Holzkirchen and operating site with maintenance workshop in Augsburg . As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Transdev GmbH group, it belongs to the French Transdev group and has been providing passenger transport services since December 2008.
It is also a sister company of Bayerische Oberlandbahn GmbH, which is also based in Holzkirchen. Since 2008 the BRB has been running the Ammerseebahn and the Weilheim – Peißenberg and Peißenberg – Schongau lines and, since 2009, the Paartal and Altmühltalbahn . Bayerische Regiobahn GmbH has also been operating the Augsburg 1 diesel network since December 2018.
Bayerische Regiobahn GmbH operates on behalf of the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG), which plans, finances and controls regional and S-Bahn traffic in Bavaria. Like most providers, the Bayerische Regiobahn is in the positive range in the BEG's quality ranking. In February 2016 it was ranked 8th out of 28 with 52.60 points.
From June 2020 the BRB, the Bayerische Oberlandbahn (BOB) and the Meridian will appear under the uniform name BRB. The previous companies or brands are represented as networks:
- Chiemgau-Inntal (formerly Meridian)
- Oberland (formerly BOB)
- Ostallgäu-Lechfeld (formerly Diesel Network Augsburg 1)
- Ammersee-Altmühltal (formerly Diesel Network Augsburg 2)
At the same time, the use of LINT multiple units on the BOB begins.
Served routes
Diesel network Augsburg II
On May 11, 2006, the Bavarian Railway Company announced the winners of the tender projects in the Augsburg area. While Deutsche Bahn continues to operate the electrified routes and the routes from Augsburg to Landsberg and Bad Wörishofen (diesel network I), the former Veolia traffic group (now Transdev group) came into play in diesel network II founded the Bavarian Regiobahn. The BRB operates local rail passenger transport on the following lines:
- KBS 985 (Ammerseebahn) : Augsburg - Mering - Geltendorf - Dießen - Weilheim
- KBS 962 (Pfaffenwinkelbahn): Weilheim– Peißenberg - Schongau (routes Weilheim – Peißenberg and Peißenberg – Schongau )
In December 2009 the following routes were added:
- KBS 983 (Paartalbahn) : Augsburg – Aichach – Schrobenhausen– Ingolstadt
- KBS 990/991 (Altmühltalbahn) : Ingolstadt – Eichstätt station – Eichstätt city
The offer of the Bavarian Regiobahn is complemented by the interaction with the trains of the DB Regio Allgäu-Schwaben between Augsburg and Mering in the rush hour every quarter of an hour. On the Paartalbahn, the BRB runs between Augsburg and Friedberg every quarter of an hour during the day, and then every half hour to Aichach.
The BRB introduced a new timetable concept on the Ammerseebahn: among other things, there were no idle times in Mering, shorter travel times were implemented, interval gaps were closed and all trains now also serve the St. Alban and St. Ottilien stops , so that they run every hour (during rush hour every half hour) between Augsburg and Weilheim.
Between Geltendorf and Weilheim the BRB runs partly right next to the Ammersee and then crosses the Ammermoos in the direction of Weilheim, with a good view of the Bavarian Alps.
In the station Aichach occurred on May 7, 2018 of the single-track railway line Ingolstadt-Augsburg a (Paar Valley Railway) railway accident . At around 9:20 p.m., the VT 215, a regional train of the Bavarian Regiobahn, ran into a stationary DB Cargo freight train . Two people were killed and 14 injured.
On December 7, 2018, the company received another contract for Lot 2 of the Augsburger Netze from the BEG from December 2022. Lot 2 comprises the previous diesel network II.
Diesel network Augsburg I
On November 9, 2015, the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) announced that it would award the Augsburg I diesel network to the BRB from December 2018. The contract was awarded in March 2016 for twelve years. The Augsburg I diesel network will in future include the Munich – Füssen, Augsburg – Füssen and Augsburg – Landsberg lines.
The BRB has been operating on the following lines since December 9, 2018:
- KBS 970/974 Munich-Füssen,
- KBS 971/974 Augsburg-Füssen and
- KBS 971/986 Augsburg – Landsberg am Lech.
history
On October 7, 2006, the traffic management contract was officially signed at Augsburg Central Station . On the same day, the BRB announced that new two-part LINT 41 diesel multiple units were to be procured from Alstom for the traffic on the four routes , an identical vehicle from sister company Veolia Verkehr Sachsen-Anhalt was on display at the station and could be viewed.
Another presentation event was held on October 6, 2007, this time in the Peißenberg train station in the Weilheim-Schongau district . The approximately 500 guests were entertained and entertained by music, and it was also possible to take part in a shuttle ride between Peißenberg and Weilheim .
On January 28, 2008, the concept of the BRB was explained in more detail as part of the series of lectures Pro Bahn -Treff in the Augsburger Zeughaus. The approximately 50 guests were able to ask questions and give suggestions.
On October 11th, the BRB presented its new trains in Augsburg, Aichach and Schrobenhausen. Here two LINT41s were used in free traffic and for inspection. A small station festival in Aichach with around 500 visitors rounded off the whole thing.
26 LINT41 railcars have already been delivered and were in test operation around Munich until November 9, 2008. Since November 10, 2008, there have been two daily test drives between Augsburg and Schongau. The trains designated as VT 210 to VT 237 are equipped with increased engine power, the latest software version, ticket machines and a children's play area.
On May 16, 2009, the Bayerische Regiobahn celebrated a big festival in Augsburg's main train station under the motto “111 years of the Ammersee Railway - 111 days of the Bavarian Regiobahn”. About 8,000 visitors came.
The first vehicle blessing took place on May 23, 2009. The railcar VT 217 received the coat of arms of Eresing and Sankt Ottilien . At the same time, the advertising in the roof rim area was adapted.
Since May 2012 the BRB has been maintaining its trains in its new, modern depot on the railway site in Firnhaberstraße in Augsburg, next to the historic railway park . Together with Augsburger Localbahn GmbH, she founded the competence center for rail vehicle maintenance (KSI) here. KSI will also maintain rail vehicles from other companies and carry out necessary work such as maintenance, cleaning, adding supplies and repairs. Before the new plant was completed, the BRB had temporarily serviced its vehicles in the listed halls of the Augsburg railway park. For this purpose, extensive construction work was carried out by the Bavarian Regiobahn in coordination with the Bahnpark Augsburg and DB Netz AG. Among other things, the roof of the so-called northern mount was completely renewed. In addition, the Bayerische Regiobahn also renovated part of the track systems, the electrical equipment, the heating of the building and the inspection pits.
On December 18, 2018, the Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG) awarded the contract for the “Augsburger Netze” (Lot 2) procurement network to Bayerische Regiobahn GmbH. Operations will start at the end of 2022. The contract period is nine years.
Lot 2 will include the following lines in the future:
- Schongau - Weilheim - Geltendorf - Mering - Augsburg Hbf - Gessertshausen - Langenneufnach
- Augsburg - Aichach - Ingolstadt Hbf
- (Ingolstadt Hbf -) Eichstätt train station - Eichstätt city
From July 10, 2019, less frequented connections on the Ingolstadt – Eichstätt route will have to be canceled due to a lack of staff, and from July 12, also on the Augsburg – Schongau route. Replacement buses operate.
