S-Bahn in Germany

The RegioSchienenTakt Augsburg is a project in the Augsburger Verkehrsverbund , which aims to supply the Augsburg conurbation with efficient local rail transport. The previous regional railways are to be replaced by several diameter lines. Augsburg's main train station will serve as the central hub .

Mobility hub Augsburg Central Station

A fundamental element of the current plans is the conversion and expansion of Augsburg main station into a so-called mobility hub , where it will serve as a hub for local , regional and long-distance traffic . All S-Bahn lines are to serve the main station, but most of them will not end there. Timetables that are coordinated with one another are also intended to achieve shorter waiting and travel times.

The planning provides for the following measures:

  • Extension of the station by another platform
  • Reconstruction measures to make the station completely barrier-free
  • Construction of an underground tram stop for several tram lines

The plans for the renovation of Augsburg main train station including Königsplatz were delayed by almost two years due to a public petition at the end of 2007. The new transfer hub on Königsplatz was put into operation on December 15, 2013, and construction work on the planned tram tunnel under Augsburg's main train station is still ongoing. The tunnel is scheduled Template: future / in 3 yearsto go into operation in 2023 .

Current situation

The local transport plan for the city of Augsburg and the districts of Augsburg and Aichach-Friedberg for the years 2006 to 2011 was drawn up on April 27, 2006. This included the first plans with a destination network for expanded regional traffic in 2011. In the meantime, this resolution has been changed again in smaller elements - for example, the commission has in the meantime refrained from reactivating the stop at Augsburg Hirblinger Strasse . In the official press releases, the project is referred to as RegioSchienenTakt Augsburg . The aim is to create “efficient regional rail transport with the character of an S-Bahn”. No uniformly marketed network with uniform traction is sought under one operator.

As a first step in this direction, a 15-minute cycle was introduced between Augsburg main station and Bobingen when the timetable changed in December 2007. In addition, the Fugger-Express went into operation, a regional express between Munich and Augsburg, whose railcars are winged in Augsburg and continue to Ulm and Donauwörth / Treuchtlingen / Aalen every 30 minutes. In conjunction with the existing regional train lines, the 2008 timetable change resulted in an approximate 15-minute cycle in sections.

Between 2007 and 2015, the number of passengers between Augsburg and Munich increased by 43 percent, and on the Paartalbahn towards Aichach by more than 70 percent.

Some bottlenecks block a further expansion of the service: For example, sections of the future route network must be expanded to three tracks due to the cycle times (up to 15 minutes at peak times ). B. between Augsburg-Oberhausen and Westheim or Meitingen is not yet given. This expansion is neither planned nor financially secured.

At the request of the Federal Railway Authority, the government of Swabia initiated a hearing procedure in March 2013 for the construction of an additional platform in the main train station in Augsburg. Specifically, in addition to the construction of an additional platform at Augsburg Central Station, the construction measure also includes the construction of a train formation system. Furthermore, the reconstruction measures include the necessary changes to the track plan in the approach and exit to the platforms, the construction of a new siding at the Inningen stop and the block compaction in Bobingen.

The following new stops are to be added to the stop network:

  • Mering-St. Afra (since December 2008)
  • Graben (Lechfeld) commercial area (since October 2012)
  • Pair (possibly as a crossing station)
  • Vogelsang (depending on the three-track expansion)
  • Augsburg Hirblinger Straße (depending on the three-track expansion)

The following breakpoints were discarded:

  • Mödishofen

The Bavarian Railway Company provides target platform heights of both 55 and 76 centimeters.

Route

According to the AVV's “Local Transport Plan 2015plus” , all eight railway lines that run towards Augsburg are to be included. How far the trains go beyond the limits of the AVV is the responsibility of the neighboring transport authorities. The exact link and designation of the diameter lines have not yet been determined. In clockwise direction these are:
