The Augsburg Haunstetterstraße station is a stopping point south of Augsburg city center , which lies in large parts on a railroad bridge over the Haunstetter Street and extends west to the high-span bridge. Since December 2009, stairs have led from the Hochfeld Bridge to the platform. The entry signals for Augsburg Central Station are to the east of the stop . In terms of the railway building and operating regulations , the stop is part of the Augsburg main station .

The breakpoint was completed in 1939 with an island platform. In the course of the four-track expansion of the Augsburg – Munich railway line , the stop was expanded. Today it is mainly used as a transfer option between regional trains and tram lines 2 and 3 as well as the special lines 8 and 9.

history

Until 2006, only Paartalbahn trains stopped at the 38 cm high platform of the stop .

The two new 140 and 300 m long island platforms were put into operation in September 2007. Since then, trains to and from Munich have also stopped at the stop. The regional and freight train tracks of the Munich – Augsburg railway line are on the south side of the stop, and the long-distance tracks are on the north side.

To the west of the long-distance platform, a transfer connection connects the two long-distance tracks. In the station area, the line manager of the line train control begins on the long-distance tracks , which is used by fast-moving trains to and from Munich.

Regional traffic

Augsburg Haunstetterstraße is served by almost all regional and regional express trains that leave Augsburg main station in the direction of Augsburg-Hochzoll and then travel via Aichach to Ingolstadt or via Mering to Munich. All trains of the Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB) in the direction of Geltendorf and Weilheim also stop here. The Friedberger / Aichacher / Ingolstädter trains, also operated by the BRB since the timetable change on December 13, 2009, run to the stop every 15, 30 and 60 minutes. If you add up all local rail traffic services, you get, purely arithmetically, on the Augsburg "main line" Augsburg-Hochzoll - Augsburg Haunstetterstraße - Augsburg main station - Augsburg-Oberhausen a 7.5-minute cycle during rush hour, which gives the regional train traffic currently being expanded the quality of an S -Bahn predecessor system awards.

The stop is of no importance for long-distance traffic ( ICE and IC trains) - it functions purely as a local traffic stop. On January 1, 2009, Augsburg Haunstetterstraße was upgraded to station category 4 (highly frequented local transport system / local transport hub). With the new classification of the station categorization on January 1, 2011, the station was assigned to category 3.

Since the stop has been used regularly, it has developed into an important inner-city transfer hub next to the main train station and the Hochzoll and Oberhausen train stations. For commuters from the southern parts of the city of Augsburg, there is no need for a long detour through the city center to the main train station.
