The Augsburg Morell Street Station is a station on the railway line Augsburg Buchloe . It is located south of Augsburg city center on the border of the Antonsviertel and Hochfeld districts and is built as a through station with eight tracks and an island platform.

history

Class 151 with freight train in Morellstrasse station in 1989

The station was put into operation in September 1847 with the opening of the Augsburg – Buchloe railway under the name Morellstraße ; the city name Augsburg was only put in front on October 6, 1940. After the Augsburg Local Railway was founded, a branch to Haunstetten was set up at Morellstrasse station in 1899 to connect the companies Martini & Cie , SWA and Kunstmühle Kühn to the industrial area there .

During the Second World War , most of the deportations from the Augsburg region to the occupied eastern territories, including the Auschwitz concentration camp , were carried out from the Morellstraße train station - only a few transports to the Theresienstadt concentration camp started from the main train station .

Infrastructure

There are a total of eight continuous tracks at the station. Between the third and fourth tracks from the east there is a central platform that can be reached via the Von-der-Tann-Straße underpass. The other tracks at the station serve the Augsburg local railway and the connection between the main station and the railway depot , in which the Augsburg railway park is now within walking distance .

The station is not designed to be barrier-free . In Von-der-Tann-Straße there is a bus stop of the same name, which only serves the rail replacement service (SEV).

At the beginning of 2016 the platform was modernized and raised, and in June 2016 the access stairs were roofed.

business

The station is not served by long-distance traffic. Like the other small train stations in the city, Augsburg Morellstrasse serves mainly commuters to the city center. All regional trains that run from Augsburg main station in the direction of Buchloe or from there to Augsburg stop here (some of the trains continue to the Allgäu). Trains stop here every hour and continue to Landsberg am Lech via the Lechfeldbahn . In the area of the Augsburg transport association , these trains run as the R7 (to Schwabmünchen ) and the R8 (to Klosterlechfeld ). This means that there is a 15-minute cycle during rush hour. Morellstrasse station is part of the planned Augsburg S-Bahn .

Up until a few years ago, the AVV bus line 744 ran from the associated bus stop in Von-der-Tann-Straße to the technical college on Von-Parseval-Straße and on to the “Siemens” stop as a shuttle for students.
