It is a through station on the Bamberg – Hof railway line and belongs to price class 5. The station has three platform tracks, with track 3 not being used by passenger traffic.
location
The train station is in the north of the city, the city center, which is more south-facing, can be reached in about ten minutes on foot. It takes about three minutes to walk to the nearby Obermain Therme and about seven minutes to the Kurpark.
history
The station was put into operation in the course of the opening of the Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn on the Bamberg – Lichtenfels section on February 15, 1846, and a second track was added to the line in 1891. The line and thus the station were electrified on May 10, 1939.
Reception building
The station building was built from 1845–1846 according to plans by Friedrich Bürklein in the ancient Roman style on the city side, east of the railway line. The sandstone block construction consists of a two-storey central wing with a gable roof between single-storey wing structures with half-hipped roofs. The windows and doors have arched shapes. The facade is decorated with rosettes and decorations on the gable tips. The building originally had open arcades that were later closed. It is listed as an architectural monument in the Bavarian list of monuments .
