List of train stations in Austria |
The Bischofshofen train station is located in the Austrian state of Salzburg im Pongau . It is the train station of the municipality of Bischofshofen and is the junction of the Salzburg-Tiroler-Bahn and the Ennstalbahn , i.e. the connections between Salzburg, Innsbruck and Graz, with connection to Klagenfurt ( Tauernbahn ), and thus the inner-Austrian east-west connection with the Alpine transport routes to north-west Italy and south-east Europe.
Since the renovation at the turn of the millennium, it has been a through station , previously an island station .
history
The previously petty bourgeois rural Bischofshofen was opened up as a railway junction in 1870. The economic upswing took place in 1875 through the connection to the Giselabahn in the direction of Salzburg and Wörgl as well as through the connection to the Kronprinz-Rudolf-Bahn in the direction of Radstadt and in 1876 through the expansion of the three-meter-wide access road, which was initially used as a station-prospective street and was first named as Bahnhofstrasse in 1929 . The costs were borne jointly by the railway company, the communities of Bischofshofen, St. Johann im Pongau , Mühlbach am Hochkönig , Sankt Veit im Pongau and the Mitterberg union . The Hotel Bahnhof and the Gasthof Neue Post were built next to the Böcklinger Hof (later Karolinenhof ) . The place has expanded increasingly to the north and south since the rail link. After the original main street in town, today's Alte Bundesstraße , became too narrow, Bahnhofstraße was expanded to become the main street in 1930 with an average width of seven meters. In 1934, the Bahnhofstrasse in memory of the July Putsch in chancellor Dollfuss -Straße , after the seizure of power by the Nazis in street of SA renamed.
In 1945, at the end of the Second World War , the station building was also completely destroyed and had to be rebuilt. The street was also renamed Bahnhofstraße again. Among other things, the favorable transport routes were decisive for the Kessel Loos company when choosing a location. From 2000 to 2003 the station was rebuilt.
