Golling an der Salzach is a market town in the Salzach Valley and the main town as well as the town and cadastral community (Golling) of the municipality of Golling an der Salzach in Tennengau (Hallein district) . As is customary in Austria, it is simply called “market” locally.

geography

Golling is located 24 km southeast of the city center of Salzburg , just under 11 km south of Hallein and 2 km before the Lueg Pass. The place is right on the Salzach, at 480  m above sea level. A. Height at the foot of the Rabenstein  ( 628  m above sea level ), which as Inselberg is a foothill of the Black Mountain and represents the southeasternmost peak of the Osterhorn Group. There was a good flood-proof settlement here.

The market forms its own village (Golling an der Salzach) , cadastral community ( Golling , approx. 93.7  hectares ) and a counting district (Golling an der Salzach) . It includes around 350 buildings with around 1,600 inhabitants, around half of the community's population.

The local area along the Salzach Valley Road  (B159) extends south until the roundabout junction of the Tauern motorway, the town area already Obergäu belongs ( Straßhof , Salzach settlement ) , and north to the village Kellau the municipality of Kuchl. The rest of the local area comprises another 100 houses in Obergäu and 40 in Kellau.

history

Golling Castle

The place name, from Slovene golica , 'mountain overgrown with grass' shows a settlement by Slavs at the time when the Bavarian conquest began.

The first documented mention of the place name as Golingen dates back to 1241 in a document from Archbishop Eberhard II. Golling is mentioned as a market town as early as 1284.

The Golling Castle was from 1438 to 1803 seat of the Salzburg care Court. This gave rise to the Golling judicial district , the district court was dissolved on June 1, 1923 and became part of the Hallein judicial district .

Infrastructure

The Salzachtal Straße  (B 159) runs right through the village . From the Tauern Autobahn  (A 8), the exit leads to the southern end of the village, where the Lammertal branches off . Golling has a small bridge over the Salzach.

Golling-Abtenau train station

Golling has its own train station (Golling - Abtenau ) of the Salzburg-Tiroler-Bahn , where EC , ÖBB-IC , REX and the S3 line of the Salzburg S-Bahn stop here. The ÖBB trains are part of the Salzburger Verkehrsverbund  (SVV). Travel time to Salzburg Hbf. Is around 15-20 minutes by long-distance trains and 40 minutes by high-speed train, to Hallein 15 minutes by high-speed train, and to Bischofshofen Bhf. Around 20 minutes by all trains.
