The Ottersweier Station is a train station at kilometer 119.2 of the railway line Mannheim-Basel (Rheintalbahn) in Ottersweier between the stations of Bühl and Achern . Since 1989 it has served as a depot and since December 2004 as a turning point for changing tracks on Karlsruhe Stadtbahn trains .

history

On June 1, 1844, opened Grand Ducal Baden State Railways the past leading to Ottersweier section Baden-Oos - Offenburg that of Mannheim via Heidelberg , Bruchsal , Karlsruhe and Rastatt leading Rheintalbahn . Initially, however, no train station was planned in Ottersweier. It was not until October 15, 1845 that the grand ducal railway station was built.

The station was connected to the electrical railway network in 1957 when the Rhine Valley Railway was electrified along the entire route .

As part of the railway construction projects for new and upgraded line Karlsruhe-Basel 1989, was the reception building of the station demolished and the passenger abandoned. Since then, the station has served exclusively as a depot .

When the 2004/2005 timetable change on December 12, 2005, the S4 and S32 tram lines (today: S7 and S71), which ended in Rastatt, were extended via Baden-Baden and Bühl to Achern , the Ottersweier station was once again important in terms of transport. Although no trains stop in Ottersweier, the trams on lines S 7 and S71, which have Bühl as their destination, have to change tracks at Ottersweier station, as the local traffic section of Bühl station no longer has any switches .

Today's meaning

Although the Rhine Valley Railway still crosses Ottersweier today, the station, although it is a station of the Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) , has no platforms since 1989 and is therefore no longer used for passenger traffic . At Ottersweier station, only the S 7 and S 71 lines of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn in the direction of Bühl (Baden) change tracks , which are empty runs between Bühl and Ottersweier .
