Platforms

The Rotterdam Lombardijen train station is a through station of the Dutch railway company Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) in the district IJsselmonde in the Dutch city of Rotterdam , South Holland , that of the architect and Bouwmeester NS Cees Douma was designed. With 6610 travelers a day (2018) it is the busiest train station in the south of Rotterdam. It is on the railway line from Rotterdam to Breda . The station currently has four platform tracks. Only regional trains stop at the station , the long-distance trains pass the outer tracks at the station.

history

The station was opened in 1964 after the district's population increased, but without ticket machines and rather provisionally with wooden platforms. On September 12, 1968, the expansion to four tracks followed, as well as new platforms and a new station building . Since 2009 the high-speed line HSL Zuid ( high-speed line Schiphol – Antwerp ) has been rejoining the existing rail network shortly before the station, but the high-speed trains from Paris or Brussels do not stop at the station.

Local public transport

Tram lines 2 and 20 of the Rotterdamse Electrische Tram (RET) stop at Lombardijen station . To the east of the train station is the stop of several local and regional bus routes.
