Walthersdorf (Erzgeb) refers to the former train station and now the stopping point of the Walthersdorf district of the municipality of Crottendorf in the Saxon Erzgebirge district, southwest of Annaberg-Buchholz . With the Walthersdorf (Erzgeb) Hp stop, the place had another station on the Walthersdorf – Crottendorf railway line , on which passenger traffic was discontinued in 1996.

After the discontinuation of passenger traffic on the Annaberg-Buchholz-Schwarzenberg railway line in 1997, the station is without scheduled rail traffic. Since 2009, this route has been used on individual weekends in the summer half of the year by the Saxon Railway Friends Association as an Ore Mountains observation train for tourist excursions. The responsible railway company is the Verein Sächsischer Eisenbahnfreunde e. V.

The reception building, two outbuildings and the barrier system are under monument protection.

The station Walthersdorf (Ore Mountains) was opened on 1 December 1889 as a stop along with the railway line Buchholz-Schwarzenberg (Erzgeb) and the branching here secondary web Walthersdorf-Crottendorf. Since a larger train station was planned for the neighboring Schlettau from the start, the Walthersdorf stop was not created as a connecting station, but only as a branch point for the pedestrian crossing and local freight traffic. The trains to Crottendorf began and ended since the opening of the lines in Schlettau station, to which Walthersdorf was subordinate to the administration for most of its existence. Only from April 1, 1921 to March 30, 1924 and from June 1, 1938 to May 1, 1947 was the Walthersdorfer Bahnhof an independent office.

The station, which was run as a train station since May 1, 1905, had three tracks. As a loading ramp and goods shed track, track 1 conveyed general cargo and wagonload traffic. Track 2 was the main track for trains to and from Crottendorf. Both tracks are more available. Only track 3, which is the continuous main track of the Buchholz-Schwarzenberg line, is still there today. The 90 m long passenger platform was located on an island between tracks 2 and 3. It thus served the Buchholz and Crottendorfer trains at the same time. The station Walthersdorf (Ore Mountains) had six points and a railway crossing. The station had a reception building with an attached goods shed, farm building, loading ramp, a signal box, farm well, ash pit and a fire escape holder in the high-rise buildings and related structures. The loading area was expanded around 1925. In 1926, a barrier to secure the branching off Crottendorfer track was erected at the entrance to the island platform.

The Walthersdorf (Erzgeb) station had the greatest volume of traffic in the 1920s and 1930s. At that time ten pairs of trains drove to Crottendorf every day. Five continuous pairs of trains and a number of other shorter trains ran between Buchholz and Schwarzenberg. In addition, there were around five to seven independent freight train services. In the freight traffic, especially incoming wood goods for the company Georg Adler, which operated a cardboard box factory in Walthersdorf, are worth mentioning. After World War II the company was in a furniture-producing state-owned enterprise converted. The delivery of coal also played an important role. In 1964 the freight tariff station in Walthersdorf was closed. Since then, freight customers have had to hand in or pick up their goods in Schlettau or Crottendorf. A few years later, the points and tracks that were no longer needed were expanded, leaving the track of the former loading line for the purposes of the railway maintenance service. A planned termination of the Crottendorfer Bahn failed because of the high volume of goods in Crottendorf.

After German reunification , rail freight and passenger traffic declined dramatically. As a result, freight traffic on the two lines touching Walthersdorf (Erzgeb) station was discontinued at the turn of the year 1994/95. On December 31, 1996, passenger traffic to Crottendorf was discontinued and the line was dismantled after it was closed in 1999. The last scheduled train crossed Walthersdorf (Erzgeb) station on September 27, 1997 on the Annaberg-Buchholz-Schwarzenberg railway line.

The station building was bought by Claus Schlegel in 2000 and restored and converted into a railway museum within three years. The Annaberg-Buchholz-Schwarzenberg line was taken over on January 1, 2002 by DB's own Erzgebirgsbahn . Since 2009, the route has been used on individual weekends in the summer half-year as an Ore Mountains observation railway for tourist excursions. The responsible railway company is the Verein Sächsischer Eisenbahnfreunde e. V. Since then, the Walthersdorf (Erzgeb) station has only been used as a stopping point.
