The Quedlinburg Post Office is a listed post office building in the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

It is registered as a post office in the Quedlinburg monument register and is located southeast of the historic Quedlinburg old town at Bahnhofstrasse 15.

Architecture and history

The post office was built between 1887 and 1889 according to the design of the Reichspostamt Berlin, August Kind (floor plan) and plans by the government architect Voges in the neo-Romanesque style . The outward appearance of the massive complex is reminiscent of a castle palace from the Staufer era . On the east and west sides of the building are splendidly designed gates and fences, the main entrance is on the north side. On the courtyard side there is another wing of the building in a design coordinated with the main building. In the south-eastern part of the courtyard there is a correspondingly designed carriage hall . When it was completed and inaugurated by the director of the Reichspostamt PDFischer on May 24, 1889, the post office was one of the most modern post and telegraph stations in Germany .

The lower floor of the building is used by Postbank , which in turn offers all Deutsche Post services. The delivery base for Quedlinburg and the surrounding areas was relocated to a new building in the Groß Orden industrial park in June 2012. In 2012 the house, which also offers living space on the upper floor, was for sale.
