history

South of the Freiberg old town were the surface systems of old ore mines until the 19th century. Among other things, the "Red Pit" belonging to the Assumption Treasure existed on the "Red Way ". Today's technology, which dates back to 1856, was put into operation in connection with the construction of the Rothschönberger Stolln .

In the course of industrialization and the development of the Freiberg train station, which opened in 1862, into a railway junction, the area between the old town and the train station began to be developed with residential buildings from the Wilhelminian era , schools, banks and factories in the second half of the 19th century . There are old industrial areas around the train station and the bus station is now on Wernerplatz. In its western part, the living quality of the Bahnhofsvorstadt is higher than in the east, where the old Jüdenberg (Jewish suburb) and several outbuildings were.

Infrastructure

In addition to the Freiberg (Sachs) train station, there is also the city bus station in the suburb of the station.
