Swell:

The Langå – Struer railway is a single-track line in Midtjylland , Denmark . It connects the towns of Langå and Struer . After the Randers – Aarhus railway line , this was the second railway line built in the region.

history

The line was built by Peto, Brassey and Betts on behalf of the Danish State for state operation. The Langå– Viborg section was put into operation on July 21, 1863, the Viborg– Skive section on October 17, 1864 and the remnant Skive – Struer on November 17, 1865. The German-Danish War of 1864 delayed the opening of the lines west of Viborg.

Later route modifications

The Skive – Struer route initially ran through Ravnstrup and reached the old train station in Viborg. This was a terminus because both the Langå and Skive lines came from the south.

Viborg 1896

In 1896, a joint through station was opened in Viborg. Initially, only the most necessary relocation was carried out. This took place in the south-west outside of Viborg and was connected with a sharp curve in the direction of the line from 1864 at Transiggårdvej.

Ravnstrup 1943

A detour through the town of Ravnstrup was connected with this route. On October 26, 1943, the line was relocated over a length of seven kilometers. The new route is 1.4 km shorter than the old one, has larger radii of curvature and a smaller increase. The place Ravnstrup received a new train station on the relocated route.

Skive

The station Skive was in 1864 created as head station east of the city, not a bridge over the Karup to have to build. With the extension of the line to Struer in 1865, the line was passed south of the city, but the bridge was still necessary there. The onward journey to Struer was only possible via a sawtooth drive to the Skive sporskifte operating point . There the route leading past the station could be reached via a switch . It was not until 1962 that a through station was built as the third station in the city. This made it necessary to swivel the railway line for four kilometers. Three kilometers of the old route near Karup Å have been preserved as a path.

traffic

Arriva has been serving the route in regional traffic since January 2003 . In addition, Danske Statsbaner operates daily intercity connections from Struer to København H and to Kastrup train station at Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport .

According to a tender by Transport-, Bygnings- og Boligministeriet ( German  Ministry of Transport, Building and Housing ) for the implementation of regional transport in Denmark by private providers, the allocation of train services between Langå and Struer is to be stipulated by contract for eight years from December 2020 .
