The Libochovice – Vraňany railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built by the local railway Libochowitz – Jenschowitz (Czech: Místní dráha Libochovice – Jenšovice ) as a state-guaranteed local railway . It runs in Central Bohemia from Libochovice via Mšené-lázně to Vraňany .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On December 5, 1907, the concession to build and operate a standard-gauge local train from the Libochowitz station of the Laun-Libochowitz local railway via Mscheno, Ctiňowes and Kostomlat to the Jenschowitz station of the privately owned Austro-Hungarian state railway company was granted. The line was opened on October 13, 1907. The operation was carried out by the kk Austrian State Railways (kkStB) for the account of the local railway Libochowitz – Jenschowitz .

In 1912 the timetable of the local railway indicated three mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains that were connected to and from Laun (Louny). They needed well over two hours for the 42-kilometer route. Other trains ran between Libochowitz and Bad Mscheno.

After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took over the management of the kkStB. On January 1, 1925, the Libochowitz – Jenschowitz local railway was nationalized by law and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

From 1931 motor trains were used on the route , which enabled a significant increase in travel speeds in passenger traffic. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded a total of four continuous pairs of trains on the Libochovice – Vranany route. Other trains ran between Libochovice and Roudnice nad Labem .

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

Between June 1, 1985 and July 1, 1987, traffic between Libochovice and Straškov was completely stopped due to the renewal of tracks and systems.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia .

When the timetable changed on December 10, 2006, the responsible Ústecký kraj canceled the passenger train service on the Libochovice – Straškov section. Since then, passenger train traffic has only taken place between Straškov and Vraňany. The 2008 timetable recorded ten pairs of passenger trains between Straškov and Vraňany on working days, which ran every two hours. The Račiněves stop has been served by passenger trains on the Roudnice – Straškov – Račiněves route since December 9, 2007.

In October 2010, the Czech Ministry of Transport announced the intended closure of the line between Libochovice and Račiněves in December 2010, which was not implemented.

From the 2016 timetable, the route will be integrated into the Ústecký kraj regional cycle as the T5 “Podřipský motoráček” (Libochovice – Roudnice nad Labem) tourist route . Scheduled passenger trains stopping at all en-route stations operate on the weekends from March 25th to October 30th. The commissioned railway company is KŽC Doprava , which uses a class 831 multiple unit for these services .

Vehicle use

The 422.025 “ ARCHIVEVODA KAREL ” in the Railway Museum Lužná u Rakovníka

For the account of the local railway Libochowitz – Jenschowitz the kkStB procured two locomotives of the 178 series . The locomotives had the road numbers 178.49-50. The locomotive 422.025 (ex 178.49 " ARCHIVEVODA KAREL ") was preserved and is now part of the National Technical Museum in Prague as an operational museum locomotive .

Today, only the class 810 multiple units (ČSD class M 152.0), which were put into service from the end of the 1970s, are used in passenger traffic .
