The Ludwigslust – Parchim line is a branch line in southern Mecklenburg . The line between Ludwigslust , Neustadt-Glewe and Parchim , opened in 1880, was operated by the Parchim-Ludwigsluster-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft until 1893.

history

Parchim train station

Parchim-Ludwigsluster Railway Company

In Ludwigslust there was a train station since the construction of the Prussian railway line Berlin – Hamburg . In order to connect the cities of Parchim and Neustadt-Glewe to the route network, the three cities and the railway construction entrepreneur Herrmann Bachstein founded the Parchim-Ludwigsluster Railway Company on September 5, 1879.

On June 15, 1880, the 26-kilometer standard-gauge branch line was opened in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . The central administration for secondary railways, H. Bachstein, Berlin, ran the business .

The company developed successfully, especially when the Mecklenburg Southern Railway in Parchim connected its route via Waren to Neubrandenburg in 1885 . In 1888, 74,753 people and 64,939 tons of cargo were carried. The income amounted to 170,753 marks and the expenses to 56,792 marks. Bachstein took most of the profits from the company and used it for other railway constructions.

As part of the nationalization of the Mecklenburg railways, the company was taken over by Mecklenburg-Schwerin by contract of March 26, 1893 and incorporated into the Friedrich-Franz-Eisenbahn . The company owned three locomotives at that time .

State owned operation

The Friedrich-Franz-Eisenbahn led the operation until the establishment of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1920. Via the Deutsche Reichsbahn the line came into the existence of the Deutsche Bahn .

Since December 15, 2002, local passenger transport has been carried out by the East German Railway (ODEG). Modern diesel railcars of the Regio-Shuttle type are used , which run every hour on weekdays and every two hours on weekends.

course

The route begins in Ludwigslust, where there is a connection to the main Berlin – Hamburg line . The route branches off behind the station and turns to the northeast. Shortly after the junction from the main line is a disused track triangle, which formed the connection to the branch line to Dömitz . As far as Parchim, the route then largely follows the course of federal highway 191 , which runs almost parallel to it. The routes from Schwerin and Karow – Waren finally meet in Parchim . A branch line to Suckow also branched off here until 1945 .
