The Ploërmel – La Brohinière line is a French standard-gauge railway that ran from Ploërmel to La Brohinière station on the Paris – Brest line. Today it is still in operation for freight traffic between Mauron in the Morbihan department and La Brohinière , which is in the municipality of Montauban-de-Bretagne in the Ille-et-Vilaine department . Today (2015) it belongs to SNCF Réseau , has the number 472 000, is single-track and not electrified.
history
1878-1993
Public interest in the railway line was established on June 13, 1878 (Déclaration d'utilité publique) . On July 17, 1883, an agreement between the Compagnie des chemins de fer de l'Ouest (Ouest) and the Ministry of Public Works (Traveux public) was signed and confirmed by law on November 20, which entrusted the Ouest with the operation. Construction was carried out at state expense and the company received annual subsidies. Operations began on April 6, 1884.
In 1909, the railway company and its routes were taken over from the budget and in 1938 passed to the SNCF . 1997 to 2014 the infrastructure belonged to the RFF , since 2015 to SNCF Réseau .
Gradual closings followed in the second half of the 20th century; the station buildings and the guards' houses along the route were sold. In 1971 passenger traffic ended. In 1993, the Ploërmel – Mauron section was decommissioned and officially closed on October 17, 1994 at the same time as the Questembert – Ploërmel line ; they were bought by the département and today form the Questembert – Mauron cycle path. In 1998, freight traffic on the remnant was given up; the route remained here, however.
Reactivation from La Brohinière to Mauron
In 2005 it was decided to set up a logistics center in Gaël , which gave the impetus for reopening freight transport. After intensive negotiations, the line was repaired in sections. The first freight train ran to Saint-Méen-le-Grand on March 31, 2009 . Gaël was reached again on March 18, 2013. The extension to Mauron is still "in preparation" (en gestation) at the end of 2015 .
