Balázs Balázs (born April 11, 1942 in Kosna , Besterce-Nazód County , now Romania ) is a Hungarian sculptor and teacher of art and art history .

Life

Balázs passed his Abitur in 1960 in Szeged and initially trained as a qualified primary school teacher at the teachers' institutes in Debrecen and Győr . This was followed by a three-year postgraduate course to become a specialist teacher for art and art history at the University of Education and the Academy in Pécs . His decades of work as a teacher and later as a school director were supplemented or interrupted by additional professional and artistic projects. From 1978 to 1981 he was the artistic director of the Kishajmás ceramics factory, and from 1981 to 1983 he was a lecturer in ceramics production at the Faculty of Architecture at the Mihály Pollack University of Technology in Pécs. A scholarship from the city of Bergamo enabled a stay in Italy from 1988 to 1990.

In 1995 he was elected mayor of the Erdősmárok municipality, he held the office until 1999. In southern Hungary, on behalf of various municipalities and the regional government, he organizes sculpture meetings and symposia, for example for the cities of Pécsvárad and Kozármisleny. He is also a founding member and president of the Mohács City Art Association . Balázs lives in Himesháza in Baranya County near Pécs . The signature of his work is B².

The sculptor works with stone, wood and clay as well as with elaborate bronze casting processes. His works follow a modern understanding of art in terms of composition and reduction. The preoccupation with the work of his role models Pablo Picasso or his compatriot Victor Vasarely is a central theme. There are also political, humanistic or religious topics. Balázs is a member of the Association of Hungarian Art Teachers .
