Himesháza ( German Nimmersch , Croatian Imeš ) is a Hungarian municipality in the Mohács district in Baranya County .

Location and surroundings

Himesháza is located in a valley of the Branauer hill country. Larger places in the area are Pécsvárad and Mohács .

history

The place probably existed as early as the 10th century and was first mentioned in a document in 1333. By the end of the 17th century it was almost extinct. The first German colonists appear around 1722. They were called to Himesháza by the then landlord, the Bishop of Pécs Count Wilhelmus Franciscus Freiherr von Nesselrod (1703–1732). It is believed that around 120 farming families settled. According to the tax plans, a total of 907 new settlers arrived in the village between 1721 and 1752. The vast majority of Germans came from the Hochstift Fulda , hence the name of the inhabitants as "Stifolder" or "Stifoller".
