Balance, Not Symmetry is a film drama by Jamie Adams , on 23 June 2019 under the Edinburgh International Film Festival made its debut and was released in the UK on August 2 of 2019. It is a modern version of Romeo and Juliet told from Juliet's point of view.

The privileged Shirley-Caitlin Walker goes to study at the Glasgow School of Art. When her father dies unexpectedly, her livelihood is endangered and she does not know whether she will seek the support of her mother Mary.

Directed by Jamie Adams , who co-produced the film with Maggie Monteith . The Welsh director wrote the script together with Simon Neil , the front man of the Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro .
Laura Harrier stars as the art student Shirley-Caitlin Walker, who studies at the Glasgow School of Art and whose privileged existence is endangered by the unexpected death of her father. Kate Dickie plays her mother Mary Walker. Bria Vinaite took on the role of her fellow student Hannah. Freya Mavor and Martin Bell as well as Tamsin Egerton and Shauna Macdonald can be seen in other roles .
Filming began in Glasgow in mid-September 2018 .
The score was written specifically for the film by the rock band Biffy Clyro . In May 2019 the Scottish trio released Balance, Not Symmetry, the first song from the soundtrack.
It premiered on June 23, 2019 at the Edinburgh International Film Festival . The film was released in cinemas in the United Kingdom on August 2, 2019.
