Baldwin Wolff
Hermann Balduin Wolff (born July 15, 1819 in Schmiedeberg , district of Hirschberg in the Riesengebirge , Lower Silesia , † November 21, 1907 in Düsseldorf ) was a German draftsman and painter of the Romantic period, as well as a drawing teacher and chess player .
Life
Wolff received his education at the Hirschberg high school . Later he worked in the building trade and carried out theoretical and practical studies at the Royal Buildings in Erdmannsdorf ( Giant Mountains ). He was in Italy around 1851 . In the middle of the 19th century Wolff switched to painting . In 1848 he was one of the founders of the Malkasten artists' association . He attended the Berlin University of the Arts and the Düsseldorf Art Academy . At the Düsseldorf Academy he attended Johann Wilhelm Schirmer's landscape class from 1850 , and Hans Fredrik Gude's landscape class from 1854 to 1856 .
From 1858 he received a fixed salary as a drawing teacher at the municipal secondary school in Düsseldorf .
He painted the motifs of his drawings , watercolors and oil paintings , which are now sold internationally at auctions and exhibited in museums, in the style of Romanticism.
Wolff also appeared as a chess player . His highest historical rating was 2530, in 1899 he was appointed honorary chairman of the 1854 Düsseldorf Chess Club. In the West German Chess Federation he held management positions.
