Baltic Rajon ( Russian Балтийский район , Baltijski rajon ) is the name of a former administrative district of the city of Kaliningrad (Koenigsberg (Prussia) ), the capital of the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad ( Koenigsberg region ). It existed from 1947 to 2009.

The Baltic Rajon was south of the Pregel (Russian: Pregolja) and comprised the southwest of the city of Kaliningrad with an area of ​​34 km² and more than 65,000 inhabitants. It bordered in the north on the Oktoberrajon , in the extreme northeast on the Leningrad and in the east on the Moscow Rajon . In the south it reached as far as the border with Gurjewsk Rajon , and its southern tip included the place Pribreschny .

history

On July 25, 1947, four districts were established in the city of Kaliningrad, in addition to the Baltic Rajon there were the Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad Rajons. The Central Rajon was detached from the Stalingrad Rajon in 1952 , and in 1961 the rest of the Stalingrad Rajon was renamed Oktoberrajon.

On June 29, 2009, the Oktoberrajon was integrated into the Zentralrajon, and the Baltic Rajon was incorporated into the Moscow Rajon, which became the largest of the three now existing districts and now encompasses the entire urban area south of the Pregel .
