Bana is a rural municipality in the department of Gaya in Niger .

geography

Bana lies in the Dendi landscape and in the Sudan landscape and borders the neighboring state of Nigeria in the east . The neighboring communities in Niger are Yélou in the north, Bengou in the south and Gaya in the west. The municipality is divided into eight administrative villages, 18 traditional villages, a hamlet and a camp. The main town of the rural community is the village of Bana.

The large, periodically water-bearing dry valley Dallol Maouri runs through the municipality in a north-south direction . The Forêt classée de Bana is a 736 hectare protected forest area in the municipality of Bana. It was placed under protection in 1955.

history

Bana was founded by some Tyenga families under their leader Abdou Bello in the early 17th century . The village of Toungategui in the municipal area of ​​Bana is a Zarma foundation in the 17th century. The French colonial administration established a canton in Bana at the beginning of the 20th century . The rural community of Bana emerged from the canton of Bana in a nationwide administrative reform in 2002, the territory of which was divided between the rural communities of Bana and Bengou.
