The Banat Philharmonic, founded on April 17, 1947, emerged from this association. She took over the patrimony and orchestra of the Philharmonic Society. At the end of 2006, the building of the former Capitol Kino was withdrawn by law from the RADEF România Film , which was administered by the city, and transferred to the Ministry of Culture. The Banat Philharmonic has been a guest here ever since.

Avenue of Musicians

In 2010, on the initiative of the Pro-Philarmonia Association , the Avenue of Musicians was inaugurated in front of the Capitol Hall in honor of world-famous classics who performed in Timișoara . So far, the Romanian composer George Enescu , the Banat composer Béla Bartók and the Hungarian pianist and composer Franz Liszt have received a star.

Building management

The building of the Banat Philharmonic was built in 1929 from municipal funds. After the Second World War it was nationalized and passed into the administration of the film distribution company “Romaniafilm”. After the fall of the Wall, a real tug-of-war began for this centrally located building, then it came under the care of the city administration. Through the resolution of an emergency ordinance from the end of May 2011 - published in Official Gazette 365 on May 25, 2011 - buildings that belonged to the film distribution company “Romaniafilm” during the socialist era are to be transferred to “Romaniafilm” again. The member of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania , Ovidiu Ganț , wrote a political declaration against this measure . At the beginning of October 2011 the Romanian government decided by means of an emergency ordinance that the Capitol Hall should again be owned and administered by the Timisoara Municipal Council. The ordinance also applies to the Capitol Summer Garden. There are plans to set up a museum on the ground floor of the Philharmonie and a culture mall in the summer garden.
