The Rotenacker Bannwald is part of the Rotenacker in the Baden-Württemberg district of Ludwigsburg . On its western edge, the hillside forest above the Remminger Enzschleife is designated as a ban forest and thus largely left to its own devices in its development.

Territorial character

In the protected forest designated in 1987 and 2004 in accordance with Section 32 of the State Forest Act, the approximately 14.4 hectare hillside forest is largely left to its own devices and is intended to develop into a primeval forest without any influence from the forestry. Most of it is located on parcels 144 and 234 on the former Remmigheimer , today Bissinger district and thus part of the urban area of Bietigheim-Bissingen . It is part of the FFH area Strohgäu and lower Enztal and is one of the ecologically valuable core zones of the Leudelsbachtal NSG .

Layers of the Lettenkeuper spread out in the upper area , limestone cliffs emerge in the middle of the slope , and rubble dominates below.

In the protected forest, the respective forest ecosystems with their animal and plant species as well as fungi should be able to develop unaffected. In addition, scientific observation should be guaranteed. Protection not only relates to the habitats and communities currently to be found there, but also explicitly includes any self-dynamic developments and changes. The development of a maple-linden slope and canyon forest is expected. The two most common tree species so far are the sessile oak (Quercus petraea) and the winter linden (Tilia cordata).

In order to limit disturbance by hikers, the former " forest nature trail " is now left to its own devices and is no longer barrier-free. Due to the limited accessibility, the Rotenacker Bannwald now offers a habitat and refuge for many bird species, including woodpeckers, barn owls , tawny owls and other birds of prey.

At the southeast corner of the Bannwald there are relics of the castle stables from the Remminger Schlössle and some striking old boundary stones from Grüningen and the House of Württemberg . In 1684, the Kiesersche forest map indicated the area of the then "Grüninger Rauttenacker" forest as a Markgröninger property. This also included the “Muttonrain”, which adjoins further south, which was then completely forested and was used as a sheep pasture after being cleared. Today, nature conservation keeps this steep slope open with valuable grassland vegetation.
