Baphomet's Curse 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baphomets Curse 2: The Mirrors of Darkness (English original title: Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror ) is a point-and-click adventure from the British development studio Revolution Software and the second part of the Baphomets curse series. It first appeared in 1997 for Windows , a year after its predecessor, Baphomet's Curse , and deals with the machinations of an ancient Mayan cult.

action

George has returned to America to take care of his dying father. After his death he wants to see Nico again and travels to Paris. But his girlfriend is pretty cool towards him and says she has a hot lead. She actually wanted to convict a man named Karzac of smuggling cocaine , but found only a strangely carved stone made of obsidian in the intercepted package . She left this to the renowned Central America specialist Professor Oubier, who invited Nico to his villa. Since she is unsure of this invitation, she asks George to accompany her. But instead of Professor Oubier, the two only meet an Indian who asks them into the house. Then George is knocked unconscious and Nico is kidnapped. George wakes up tied to a chair in a burning house and is confronted with a poisonous tarantula . In a new adventure, George and Nico travel to Paris, Marseille , London, the Caribbean and the fictional Central American banana republic of Quaramonte.

Game principle and technology

The game principle remained unchanged. Like its predecessor, Baphomets Fluch 2 is a classic comic-style point-and-click adventure game . The player moves the figure indirectly through the game world by clicking on or tapping certain positions on the screen, collecting objects, holding conversations and solving logic and combination puzzles typical of the genre. For the first time in the history of the series, the player is allowed to control Nico in phases, corresponding passages in the predecessor were only incorporated later with the Director's Cut, which was published later.

Development history

The game was released one year after its predecessor, which means that there were few changes compared to its predecessor. The graphics were slightly modernized, the music was again composed by Barrington Pheloung .

The ScummVM interpreter software also provides support for the second part . With the permission of Revolution Software, the project offers the converted cutscenes for download, which means that the game, like its predecessor, can be played entirely via the open source interpreter.

Since the first release, the game has been ported to other platforms.

Baphomet's Curse 2 Remastered

On December 9, 2010, Revolution Software released a revised version of the game for iPhone and iPad. The game has been brought up to the same technical level as the Director's Cut of the first part:

The inventory was visually revised and close-ups of the protagonists were shown during the dialogues , whereby the original background graphics were retained. A help system now shows all possible points of interaction with the help of hotspots and, if desired, gives advice on solutions. The also newly introduced diary records the results of the previous course of the game and makes it possible to recapitulate the previous plot. In terms of content, however, no changes were made.

After the iOS version, the Mac version was released on April 9, 2011, the Windows version on May 31, 2011 and the Android version on December 10, 2012.
