Baphomets Curse: The Fall of Man also Baphomets Curse 5 (English: Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse ) is a point-and-click adventure from the British developer studio Revolution Software and the fifth part of the game series Baphomets Curse .

action

Like its predecessors, Baphomet's Curse: The Fall of Man draws on historical works and legends to construct a fictional conspiracy story. The themes of the game are the early Christian, Gnostic works of the Nag Hammadi scriptures , especially the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Truth , as well as the Gospels of Mary Magdalene and Jude . The game draws a direct tradition up to the medieval order of the Cathars , which, similar to the order of the Knights Templar , was ordered by Pope Innocent III. and in the sense of the French crown (in the person of the kings Philip II , Louis VIII and Louis IX ) was wiped out by the Albigensian Crusade between 1209 and 1229.

The action of the game begins again in Paris. Nico and George are visiting an exhibition in an art gallery when suddenly a masked, armed thief enters the room, shoots the gallery owner and flees with the picture of a snake on display.

Game principle and technology

After the two direct predecessors The Sleeping Dragon and The Angel of Death had transferred the game principle into a 3D environment, The Fall of Man returns to the presentation and play style of the first two releases, the so-called 2.5D style. The play figures modeled in 3D act in front of comic-like, hand-drawn 2D backdrops. Operation is via a point & click user interface.

Production notes

The fifth installment in the Baphomets Curse series was officially announced by Revolution Software on August 23, 2012, while the company asked fans of the series for financial support for the game, which was organized through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.com . Revolution had previously invested a total of £ 500,000 in the development of the title with the proceeds from the digital distribution of its previous titles. Therefore, at the time of the announcement, the game had been in development for about six months. The aim of the crowdfunding campaign was to raise US $ 400,000, and in the end Revolution was able to collect over US $ 770,000 from more than 14,000 supporters via Kickstarter. In addition, around 50,000 US dollars came from the payment provider PayPal . This significantly expanded the scope of production. a. by including additional locations that had been deleted from the original concept for cost reasons. Originally the concept envisaged a scope of play comparable to that of the second part .

The game was initially announced for release in April / May 2013 on Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS and Android platforms. In January 2013, the postponement to the second half of 2013 was finally announced in order to be able to implement the additional content promised as part of the financing. In August 2013, a port to the PlayStation Vita handheld console was also announced. At the beginning of November 2013, December 4, 2013 was finally set as the release date for the first part. The second part of the game was released on April 16, 2014 (excluding iOS and Android). This was offered as a free update for owners of the first part. On June 24, 2014, the game was released by Koch Media on DVD-ROM and as Standard and Collector's Edition for the PC.

For iOS and Android, Revolution Games announced in June 2014 that the second part of the game would be a paid in-app purchase (iOS) or a separate app (Android). This has been available via in-app purchase since mid-July.
