Barge Lane

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Barkengasse is a mountain lane in the Saxon town of Radebeul , which is only slightly fortified in parts , and is mainly located in the Zitzschewig district , while the vineyard stairs on the Wettinshöhe still belong to Naundorf .

Location and development

South-eastern part of the Barkengasse: vineyard stairs to Wettinshöhe with a 34% gradient

The Barkengasse is roughly in the shape of a horseshoe. The western leg sits at about 124  m above sea level. NHN on the Mittlerer Bergstrasse and runs as an asphalt path in a north-easterly direction up the mountain to the Hohenhaus ( 155  m ). From there it continues as a narrow, little fortified mountain lane around the buildings of the former sanatorium (today Auerweg 1a) and the peak there at 205  m , then south on the western side of the Wettinshöhe buildings to the top of the vineyard stairs at 195  m above sea level NHN . The second leg is formed by the steep vineyard staircase, descending to 141  m to the southwest, below the Wettinshöhe, which leads to the Knollenweg; the lower part of the paved Knollenweg then descends again to 126  m to the Mittlerer Bergstraße. The Barkengasse includes, among other things, on the northwest side the 11 hectare estate of the Hohenhaus, which was formerly a vineyard, then partly a park and is now wooded.

The Barkengasse is mainly used to develop the following properties, which are listed as cultural monuments in the list of cultural monuments in Radebeul-Zitzschewig :

Hohenhaus was listed as the high house in Gurlitt's 1904 monument inventory . During the GDR era, both Hohenhaus and Zechstein and the Wettinhaus were considered architectural monuments .

The Hohenhaus Park , which has now become a forest, is considered a work of landscape and garden design , the same applies to the outdoor facilities of the Wettinshöhe , both of which, together with the associated buildings and the Zechstein mansion, are located in the historic vineyard landscape of Radebeul .

Naming

The Berggasse is probably one of the oldest in the Lößnitz localities , as the vineyards of the Hohenhaus estate are mentioned as being owned by the Meißner bishops as early as the 14th century, from which their historical name Bischoffsberg comes. And the Wettin height was in the 15th century as the country's crown owned by the Meissner bishops. The alley begins on the Mittlerer Bergstrasse, which Matthias Oeder has documented around 1600 as part of the Salzstrasse . It is mentioned in 1676 as Barickengasse , after “boricka” for an old forest area.

When Zitzschewig was still self-employed, it was called Wettinallee . After the incorporation to Kötzschenbroda , it was officially given the name Barkengasse , based on the old name .
