Bartholomew Grill
Bartholomäus Grill (born August 24, 1954 in Oberaudorf am Inn ) is a German journalist , writer and Africa correspondent.
life and work
After graduating from high school, Grill studied philosophy, sociology and art history. He began his journalistic career as a freelance cultural journalist at the Mittelbayerische Zeitung in Regensburg and at the taz in Berlin. From 1984 he volunteered at the Deutsche Allgemeine Sonntagsblatt in Hamburg, for which he then worked as a culture editor; In 1987 he moved to the politics department of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit .
In 1993 Grill was posted to Johannesburg in South Africa as the Africa correspondent for the time . He wrote reports and reports about the continent for Die Weltwoche (Zurich), Profil (Vienna) and for the magazine GEO . From 2000 he headed the Africa office of the time in Cape Town . From 2005 to 2009 Grill was part of the Africa advisory group of Federal President Horst Köhler . From 2006 he worked as a time -author in Berlin. From 2008 to 2011 he was editor of the monthly newspaper The African Times, the first German newspaper for Africa in English. In August 2009, Grill returned to South Africa as a correspondent.

Grill has expressed his connection to Africa with several books on the continent. He has been awarded various prizes for his commitment. Grill lives in Cape Town, is married and has a son.
