Bas van Bemmelen (born August 18, 1989 in Beuningen ) is a Dutch volleyball player .

Career

Bas van Bemmelen began his sporting career with judo . However, because of his length, he decided to play volleyball in 2003. First he played in the Netherlands for VoCASA Nijmegen and Tweevv Ede . In 2006 he moved from Longa 59 Lichtenvoorde to HVA Amsterdam . With Amsterdam he reached the final of the Dutch championship in 2009. A year later he moved to the German Bundesliga for RWE Volleys Bottrop . In the 2011 Europa League , van Bemmelen, who had already finished fourth in the junior European championship with the juniors, made his first appearances in the senior national team . In 2011/12 the middle blocker was under contract with the German series champion VfB Friedrichshafen . With the team he was with a 3-0 win against Generali Haching DVV Cup winner 2012 and after the semi-final against the Berlin Recycling Volleys third in the Bundesliga . Then van Bemmelen won the European league for the first time with the Dutch with a 3-2 win in the final against hosts Turkey . In the summer of 2012 he developed into a regular player in the senior national team of the Netherlands. For the 2012/13 season he moved from Friedrichshafen to league competitor TV Bühl . With Bühl he reached fourth in the main round of the Bundesliga and the play-offs, in which his team was eliminated in the semifinals against Berlin. In the league's scorer statistics, van Bemmelen was one of the best central attackers in 2012/13 with an attack efficiency of over 50 percent and came twelfth in the block statistics. In 2013 he was back in the national team and took part in the world league with his team .

For the 2013/14 season van Bemmelen moved to the Belgian first division club Topvolley Antwerp . At the beginning of 2014 in the Czech Republic he missed qualifying for the World Cup with the national team . In February he won the Belgian Cup with Antwerp by beating Knack Randstad Roeselare 3-2 . In the league, his club lost to the same opponent in the final. Van Bemmelen was named the league's most effective attacker. With the national team van Bemmelen took part in the world league again in 2014 . In February 2015 he was again in the Belgian Cup final and lost with his team 3-0 to Lennik. In the Belgian championship he finished third with Antwerp in the 2014/15 season. In the scorer statistics, he was listed as the second best quotient attacker. In 2015 he was again a member of the senior national team of the Netherlands and took part in the World League , where he was honored by the Dutch Volleyball Federation for his 100th international match in the game against Finland on June 13, 2015. In Division II of the World League, the team took second place in the group. At the European Championships in 2015 , he reached the last 16 with the Netherlands, which they lost 3-0 to eventual finalists Slovenia . At the end of October van Bemmelen returned to the German Bundesliga and switched to the SWD Powervolleys Düren , who were looking for another middle blocker due to several ailing players. In the 2015/16 season he reached the quarter-finals of the Bundesliga playoffs ; The Dürener also reached the quarter-finals in the CEV Cup . Then van Bemmelen left the club. In summer 2016 he finished his career as a professional volleyball player and began studying physiotherapy in Nijmegen. Since October 2016 he has been back in the Dutch second division for his hometown club Vocasa Nijmegen .
