"Chronicle of the Kōga-Yamja ") by Futaro -Ninja from 1958 based. Appeared between 2003 and 2004 and was adapted as an anime television series in 2005 .

action

At the beginning of the Azuchi Momoyama period in Japan (late 16th century), two ninja clans, Iga Tsubagakure and Kouga Manjidani , are embroiled in a bitter blood feud that has lasted for centuries. The fighting only stops when Hattori Hanzo I. succeeds in enforcing a ceasefire by placing both in the service of Tokugawa Ieyasu . Even so, the hostilities between Kouga and Iga persist.

In 1614, when Ieyasu has already resigned from his office and passed it on to his son Hidetada , there is a dispute over his successor. The various members of the government begin to take a stand on the two grandchildren and the shogunate threatens to fall to pieces.

To solve this problem before it gets out of hand, Ieyasu orders the truce between Kouga and Iga to be lifted. Each of the two clans is to nominate ten of their best ninja in order to let them take part in a ruthless and bloody competition for life and death. The clans each represent one of the two grandchildren. The Iga should fight for the eldest grandson Takechiyo , the Koga for the second-born Kunichiyo . For this purpose, the ten best fighters of the two clans are written on two scrolls. The clan that survives will be given 1000 years of fame and honor.

But not all those affected are willing to shed fresh blood again due to disputes that have long passed. Before this conflict breaks out again, the two leaders ( Gennosuke and Oboro ) are already engaged to each other and were hoping that their union would bring the two clans together again. From this surprising twist in a conflict they did not want to be part of, both are forced to choose whether to abandon the person they love or their entire clan to annihilation.
