Bastian Conrad (born March 18, 1941 in Marburg ) is a German neurologist and book author.

Life

Bastian Conrad, son of the psychiatrist Klaus Conrad , studied medicine at the universities of Göttingen and Freiburg , where he received his doctorate from Richard Jung .

In Munich and Ulm he continued his training as a neurologist . In 1972/73 he worked as part of a two-year research stay at the Department of Neurophysiology at the University of Western Ontario at Brooks and Wiesendanger in the field of experimental neurophysiological basic research. His most important scientific contributions by means of single cell recordings in the cortex and by means of reversible cooling of the cerebellum (Nucl. Dentatus) in awake primates can be found in the uncovering of so-called transcortical reflex mechanisms (Brain Research 1974) and the proof of a timing function of the cerebellum during ballistic movements (J. Neurophysiol 1974) In 1976 he qualified as a professor in neurology and clinical neurophysiology at the University of Ulm .

He worked as a senior physician at the Neurological University Clinic in Ulm and in 1978 took over the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Göttingen. In addition to clinical neurophysiological topics, especially in the field of electromyography , he devoted himself from the beginning to the topics of spasticity and movement disorders and became head of the special research area Neurophysiology and Pathology of Motor Skills .

After working as Medical Director of the Göttingen Clinic, he was appointed full professor of neurology at the neurological clinic at the Technical University of Munich in 1989 and took over the management of the neurological clinic at the Technical University of Munich (Klinikum rechts der Isar). His clinical-scientific focus was on central motor skills (movement disorders) and peripheral motor skills (electromyography). Research into central motor skills was facilitated by the use and combination of the imaging methods CCT, MRT, fMRI and PET in neurology. Bastian Conrad retired in spring 2007 .

Services

Bastian Conrad published numerous papers in international journals and edited several monographs. There are also numerous book contributions.

After his retirement he dealt in detail with the authorship theory of William Shakespeare and in his monograph The True Shakespeare: Christopher Marlowe came to the personal certainty that not William Shakespeare from Stratford, but Christopher Marlowe must have been identical with the author of the works of William Shakespeare .
